Fix: “Sorry, something went wrong” in Black Myth: Wukong
Black Myth: Wukong may stop before the main menu with “Sorry, something went wrong. For solutions please visit:” and a Codefusion support link. Steam can still show the game as installed; that does not mean Denuvo Anti-Tamper validation has succeeded.
The Codefusion link contains an e= error code. Players with 88500006 have reported a 24-hour purchase-revalidation notice; other codes can give different instructions. Read the page linked in your own popup before treating this as a graphics or game-server problem.

1. Check the Codefusion Message and Wait if It Tells You To
Players with e=88500006 commonly see a notice that their purchase cannot yet be revalidated and to try again after 24 hours. This is an activation restriction, not evidence of a game-server outage. The wording on your Codefusion page takes priority.
- Copy the entire URL shown in the popup into a browser. A generic Codefusion homepage will not show the explanation for your error; you need the link with your
e=code. - If that page asks you to wait 24 hours, close the game and leave its installation alone. Reinstalling or changing PCs will not shorten the wait.
- After the stated wait, open Steam in Online Mode and launch Black Myth: Wukong once from your Library.

If the game opens after the wait, no further change is needed. If it still shows the same notice, record the full URL and contact support rather than changing your PC again. Follow any different instruction on your own Codefusion page.
2. Check the Steam Account if Access Looks Wrong
Steam can retain the installed files while the signed-in account lacks access to the game. Checking the owning account and Online Mode separates that problem from a Codefusion restriction. This will not clear a page that explicitly tells you to wait.
- Exit Steam with Steam > Exit. If it remains open in Task Manager, close the remaining Steam process and reopen the client.
- Sign in to the account that owns or legitimately shares Black Myth: Wukong. Choose Steam > Go Online if Steam is offline.
- Open the Steam Library and check that the game shows Play rather than Purchase. If you use Steam Families, check whether this account has access under Steam’s family-sharing rules.
- Launch the game once from the Steam Library. If ownership is still missing, use Steam Support instead of changing game files.
Only If Windows Shows a Separate Permission Error
These supplied screenshots belong to a separate Windows access-error test. Skip it if the only message you see is the Codefusion popup.
- Open the Steam Library.
- Right-click Black Myth: Wukong and open Properties.
- Under Installed Files, select Browse.
- With Steam still open, right-click b1.exe in the game folder and try Run as administrator once.
The final screenshot shows where Windows can make that setting permanent. Leave it off unless a separate permission error actually disappears; administrator mode cannot clear Codefusion’s activation restriction.
If Steam now shows Play and the game opens, the account check was enough. If the Codefusion popup still appears without a waiting notice, continue below rather than changing more Steam settings.
3. Remove Mods if the Error Followed an Update
Game Science warns that an update can leave older mods incompatible with Black Myth: Wukong, preventing launch or causing error popups. Removing those files lets the updated game start without an outdated loader.
Check this when the game worked before a patch and your Codefusion page does not give a 24-hour waiting instruction.
- Remove the installed Black Myth: Wukong mods using their mod manager or installation instructions. Check for loader files left behind after a game update; reinstalling through Steam does not necessarily remove those files.
- Close any mod loader or injector you added specifically for the game, then restart Steam and test once.
- If the popup is gone, restore mods one at a time only after confirming that they support the current game version.
The screenshots below show the Steam Overlay setting from the original draft. The overlay is not a documented fix for 88500006; turn it off only for a clean-launch test if support asks you to rule out overlays.
Game Science’s patch notes recommend removing incompatible mods and verifying game files before relaunching. The verification step follows below.
If the game opens, leave the mods disabled until you have compatible versions. If it still fails without a Codefusion waiting notice, continue below with file verification.
4. Verify the Game Files After Removing Mods
Steam verification replaces missing or changed official files, which helps after a patch or mod removal. It cannot override a Codefusion waiting period.
- Right-click Black Myth: Wukong in the Steam Library and select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and let Steam download any replacements.
- Restart Steam and launch the game once from the Library.

If the game opens now, the damaged installation was likely involved. If it still shows the same popup without a wait notice, continue below to test the connection.
5. Check the Connection Only if Codefusion Cannot Validate Online
If the Codefusion page reports a connection problem, or its link will not open on your network, make one limited connection check. A VPN or web filter can interrupt that page without damaging the game files or Steam license.
- Check that Windows shows the correct date and time under Settings > Time & language > Date & time. If it is wrong, enable Set time automatically and select Sync now.
- If you use a VPN, proxy, or web-filtering app, disconnect it briefly and open the exact Codefusion URL from the popup again. Keep antivirus protection enabled.
- If the link still fails to open, try it once on another network such as a mobile hotspot, then return to your normal connection.
- Only if Codefusion reported a connection problem, relaunch the game once from Steam in Online Mode. A different Codefusion message may require a different response.
Keep the full Codefusion URL, its e= code, a screenshot, and any recent PC, Steam-account, or mod changes ready for support.
If the page opens or the game launches after the network change, no further repair is needed. If it still fails after any stated wait has expired, contact Black Myth: Wukong technical support through Steam. That page also lists Game Science’s support contact.
