How to Fix PlayStation Store An Unidentified Error Occurred on PS5?
PlayStation Store on PS5 can show “An unidentified error occurred. Try again in a few moments.” instead of confirming your purchase. Your card may work elsewhere, and the Store may still let you browse normally.

The message does not identify what failed. PlayStation service problems, an interrupted sign-in, or rejected payment details can prevent checkout from finishing. A bank notification also does not confirm that the Store order completed.
1. Check PlayStation Status and Your Transaction History
An outage needs time, not different billing details. A purchase that already completed needs its content delivered, not another payment.
- Open PlayStation Status and check Account management and PlayStation Store. Wait if either reports a relevant incident. A green page does not rule out an account-specific problem.

Store and account outages can block purchases even when the PS5 itself still appears online. - On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Transaction History. Select the purchasing account and a date range covering the attempt.

Transaction History tells you whether checkout failed or the purchase completed but did not download correctly. - Check the item, amount, and transaction details. If the console cannot load them, check Transaction History online or in PlayStation App.
| What you find | What to do |
|---|---|
| The game purchase is recorded, but the game is missing or locked. | Do not buy it again. Check licenses and downloads. |
| The bank shows a charge, but PlayStation has no matching order. | Pause purchases. Ask the bank whether it is pending or completed; contact PlayStation Support about the missing order. |
| No purchase completed, and the error appears after choosing payment. | Check payment details and region. |
| The error appears while redeeming a code. | Check voucher and family-account rules. |
2. Restart the PS5 and Sign In Again
A restart reloads the Store without changing your account or payment details. Signing in again is worth trying when account screens also fail to load.
- Press the PS button, select Power > Restart PS5, then reopen the Store. Check whether product pages load; there is no need to submit payment yet.

A full restart clears a stuck PS Store checkout session more reliably than Rest Mode. - If account screens still fail, make sure you have your password or passkey and verification method available. Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Sign Out.

Signing out and back in replaces a stale account session that can block Store requests. - Return to Users and Accounts > Account > Sign In and complete verification.

If sign-in fails, resolve that first rather than changing your card. The PSN sign-in failure guide covers that separate symptom; a Store purchase error alone does not justify a router or console factory reset.
3. Test the Connection When Store or PSN Will Not Load
A working streaming app does not confirm that the PS5 can reach PlayStation services. The console’s connection test checks PSN sign-in separately.
- Open Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. Check the IP address, internet connection, and PlayStation Network sign-in results.

A weak PSN connection can interrupt checkout even when downloads or streaming apps seem normal. - For a failed or intermittent connection, turn off the PS5 and unplug your home modem/router’s power. Do not press its recessed Reset button.

- Wait a minute, reconnect the modem first and then any separate router, and let the connection return. Test again. Ethernet, or moving closer to the Wi-Fi router, can help establish a stable connection.
A passing test is not proof that payment works. When only one card fails, further network changes are unlikely to help.
4. Install Any Pending PS5 System Update
Check for an update if the console has been offline or an earlier update did not finish. This keeps its online features current; it cannot correct rejected billing information.
- Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software.

Store and account features work best when the PS5 is on the latest official system software. - Install an available update without interrupting power. After the restart, check whether the Store opens normally.
5. Use PlayStation App or the Web Store
A purchase may work outside the PS5 when its Store screen is failing. This does not bypass a bank decline or account restriction.
- Open PlayStation App or PlayStation Store in a browser. Sign in to the same account as on the PS5.

- Find the item and confirm its edition and platform. Resolve any uncertain charge and verify the payment details before making one purchase attempt.

The PlayStation App or web Store can complete purchases when the PS5 Store checkout view is stuck. - If it succeeds, download the game from the PS5’s Game Library. If the error returns, recheck Transaction History instead of submitting it again.
6. Check the Card, Billing Address, and Account Region
A renewed card or old billing address can leave the saved payment details incorrect. Check them before removing a card that was working.
If PlayStation says payment information was updated too often: its card troubleshooting guidance requires waiting 24 hours without another payment-information update attempt. Another attempt restarts that period.
The generic unidentified-error message alone does not prove this block exists.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Payment Methods. Check the selected card and expiry date.
- For an expired or incorrect saved card, select it, press Options > Remove.

Re-adding the payment method refreshes saved billing and authorization data used at checkout. - Add the correct payment method. The blue payment screenshots show an older interface; follow the PS5 labels in these steps.

- Check your account country/region in online Account Management under Your Information > Residential Address > Edit.

- Use a card registered in the account’s country/region and enter the billing name and address from your bank statement. Changing the console’s language or location does not change the account region, which cannot be changed after account creation.

Region mismatch and rejected billing details are common causes of vague PlayStation Store payment failures.
For rejected special characters, PlayStation recommends the closest basic Latin letters. Ask your bank about declined authorizations, online-payment permissions, and available funds. If the details are correct, stop removing and re-adding the card.
7. Use Another Accepted Payment Method or Existing Wallet Funds
Choosing another accepted method at checkout can avoid a problem with one card. Existing wallet funds are another option; funding with the same rejected card may fail too.
Wallet top-ups are normally non-refundable. Do not add money just to test the error. Existing funds are preferable; subscriptions may still require a valid payment method.
- If you choose to fund the purchase, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Add Funds and use an accepted funding method.

Wallet funds and official vouchers can bypass a direct card checkout failure on PlayStation Store. - For a wallet voucher you already have, open PlayStation Store, press Triangle, then select More > Redeem Code.

Wallet funds and official vouchers can bypass a direct card checkout failure on PlayStation Store. - Redeem your own 12-character code for the same account region, checking its value rather than the screenshot’s example. To avoid charging the rejected card for a shortfall, the wallet must cover the full checkout total, including applicable tax.
If funding or checkout still fails, do not keep adding funds. Keep the transaction details for support.
8. Verify Voucher Details and Child-Account Limits
A valid payment method cannot fix an ineligible voucher or a child’s spending limit. Check the rule that applies to the account making the purchase.
- Voucher: check all 12 characters, its region, expiry date, and any retailer-activation requirement. Check Transaction History for previous redemption. A 10-character discount code belongs at eligible checkout, not in Redeem Code.
- Child account: the family manager can open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management, select the child, then Parental Controls > Monthly Spending Limit. The default limit is zero; age eligibility also applies.

Voucher region rules and child account spending limits can block Store purchases with a generic error. - Child’s wallet purchase: redeem a top-up voucher on the family manager’s account. The child spends from that wallet within the permitted limit.
Follow PlayStation’s voucher troubleshooting instructions for a valid code that still fails. Keep its receipt; account region or age information should not be falsified to redeem it.
9. Restore Licenses for a Purchased Game That Is Missing or Locked
When the game purchase is recorded, restoring licenses refreshes access without affecting saved data. It cannot complete a failed payment or make a missing wallet top-up appear.
- On the purchasing account, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses and select the affected license.
- Find the game in Game Library > Your Collection and select Download. Check Settings > Storage for enough free space.
- For a stuck download, open Downloads/Uploads and try Pause, then Resume. If necessary, use Cancel and Delete on the failed download entry, then download again from the library.

If the transaction completed, license repair and download restart are safer than purchasing again.
Subscriptions and in-game currency do not necessarily have a download. A recorded transaction with missing benefits needs support for that purchase, not repeated license restoration.
10. Clear the Cache Only for Persistent Console Problems
Cache clearing and database rebuilding address local system-feature problems. Consider them when Store pages remain broken on this PS5 while the same account works elsewhere, not when only payment or voucher acceptance fails.
- Turn off the PS5 and wait for its power indicator to go out. Hold the power button again until the second beep, about seven seconds later.
- Connect the controller using a USB data cable and press PS.
- Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database > Clear System Software Cache. Reopen the Store after restarting.
- For continuing local system-feature problems, PlayStation’s Safe Mode guidance also describes Rebuild Database. It recreates the content index; it is not a payment repair. Let it finish without disconnecting power.

Safe Mode cache repair can fix local Store and system feature issues without wiping installed games.
If the Error Still Appears
Contact PlayStation Support for your account’s country/region when a completed charge has no order, a valid voucher fails, or checkout fails on both the console and app or website.
- Include the error screenshot, item, attempt time and time zone, account region, Transaction History result, and whether the bank entry is pending or completed.
- Share voucher receipts and codes only through official private support, never public posts. Do not send passwords, verification codes, or full card details.
