Fix: “Connection Failed. Unable to access online services. [Reason: PUGET – ALTUS]” Error in Black Ops 6 on PS5
Black Ops 6 can show Connection Failed. Unable to access online services. [Reason: PUGET – ALTUS] on PS5 even while the console still appears online. The message confirms that the game’s connection stopped before online services became available.
What it does not identify is the failed layer: Activision, PlayStation Network, the current PS5 session, or the route through your home network.

The same screen can therefore appear during a wider outage, after a suspended session expires, or when one network cannot reach Call of Duty services correctly. License and Activision account checks belong only to narrower cases where ownership or one account behaves differently.
Use the comparison that matches what you can see:
| What you find | What it points to |
|---|---|
| Activision or PSN reports an incident | Wait for the affected service; local changes cannot confirm a fix yet. |
| The PS5 connection test or PSN sign-in fails | Repair the console or PlayStation connection before changing Black Ops 6. |
| Black Ops 6 works on a hotspot but not the home network | The router or ISP path is blocking or mishandling the connection. |
| Another account works on the same PS5 | Check the affected account’s license or Activision link. |
| A game update is queued, failed, or incomplete | Finish the update before repairing local cache or content data. |
1. Check Activision and PlayStation Service Status
A service interruption can produce PUGET – ALTUS while other apps still work because Black Ops 6 needs both Activision’s online systems and PSN. Use this check first; do not make local changes while either service reports an incident.
- Open Activision’s Online Services page and select Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

If Activision is already tracking an incident local PS5 fixes usually will not hold until that service issue clears. - Open the PlayStation Status page and check Gaming and social plus Account management.

PUGET ALTUS can look like a game-only problem even when the real break is higher up in PSN or account services. - If either page reports maintenance or degraded service, wait until it returns to normal. Then close Black Ops 6 and test one fresh launch before changing anything else.
Checkpoint: If the game reconnects after the incident clears, nothing on the PS5 needed repairing. If both services remain normal, continue to Method 2. Status pages can lag behind a new regional incident, so a sudden failure affecting several players is still a reason to recheck before changing accounts.
If the same online-services error affects another platform as well, use this broader Black Ops 6 online-services guide for the platform-specific path.
2. Refresh the PS5 Session and Finish Every Update
Use this method when both status pages are normal. A PS5 can remain connected to Wi-Fi while an expired game session, failed PSN sign-in, or queued update prevents Black Ops 6 from completing its own login.
- Close Black Ops 6. Highlight the game on the home screen, press the Options button, and select Check for Update. Install any queued game or content update before reopening it.
- Go to Settings > Network > Connection Status and select Test Internet Connection.

Activision’s own PlayStation instructions still start with the PS5 internet test because it quickly exposes a weak or broken console session. - If the test fails at internet access or PSN sign-in, follow the message shown by the PS5 before troubleshooting the game. For a failure outside Black Ops 6, use this PSN sign-in repair guide.
- Turn the PS5 completely off rather than entering Rest Mode. Unplug the router and modem from power for about one minute, restore the network, and wait until it is fully online before starting the console.
- If the console normally uses Wi-Fi, connect it by Ethernet for one launch test.

Activision still treats wired as the cleaner online path and Sony still expects the console system software to be current before deeper troubleshooting. - Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings and install any available PS5 update.
Checkpoint: If a restart fixes the error, the console or game session was stale. If Ethernet works where Wi-Fi fails, repair the wireless path. If the connection test passes and PUGET – ALTUS remains, use Method 3 only for an ownership difference; otherwise skip to Method 4.
3. Restore Licenses Only When Ownership Looks Wrong
Restoring licenses refreshes the PS5’s record of digital purchases. Use it when Black Ops 6 shows a padlock, content is missing, console sharing changed, or the purchaser’s profile works while another profile does not. Skip it for a disc copy or any case with no ownership difference.
- Sign in to the PSN account that purchased the digital copy or owns the relevant entitlement.
- If another user owns the copy, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play on that account and confirm sharing is enabled for this PS5.

If the wrong PSN account owns the game or console sharing changed the local entitlement path can break before Black Ops 6 finishes logging in. - Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses and complete the restore. PlayStation’s license-restoration guide confirms that this does not affect saved data.

PlayStation’s own licensing steps and user reports both point to Restore Licenses when a digital game suddenly stops authenticating cleanly. - Close Black Ops 6 completely and launch it again after the restore finishes.
Checkpoint: If the padlock or profile difference disappears with the error, the entitlement record was involved. If the restore changes nothing, continue to Method 4 instead of repeating it.
4. Verify the Activision Account Only When One Identity Fails
Black Ops 6 uses the Activision account linked to the PSN profile for online identity and progression. A wrong link can therefore make one profile fail while the same console and network still work. Use this method only after an account change or a profile-specific result.
- In a browser, open Activision’s account-management page and sign in using the same PlayStation login used on the PS5.

Black Ops 6 online access and progression live on the Activision account so the wrong linked PSN account can keep the game stuck before it finishes logging in. - Open Account Linking and verify that the displayed PlayStation account is the one currently used on the console.
- If the Activision email address or password is outdated, recover and update the existing account before changing a platform link.
- Unlink and relink only when the displayed PlayStation account is demonstrably wrong and you have reviewed the restriction and progression consequences.
Checkpoint: If one account fails on different networks while another works on this PS5, report the account-specific result to Activision. If every account fails on the home connection, leave the links alone and continue to Method 5.
5. Use Another Network to Isolate the Router
A router or ISP path can interrupt the ports and sessions used by Call of Duty while ordinary browsing still works. Use a short hotspot test to change only the network. Skip router changes if both connections fail identically.
- Connect the PS5 briefly to a phone hotspot or another trusted network and attempt one Black Ops 6 login. Do not download a large update over mobile data.

If Black Ops 6 gets in on another connection but not on your normal network the problem is much more likely to be inside the home router path. - If both networks fail in the same way, stop here and proceed to Method 6. Router changes are not supported by this result.
- If the alternate connection works, open the home router settings. Remove or disable any existing manual port-forwarding rules for the PS5, enable UPnP, restart the router, and test again.
- If UPnP does not help, turn it off before following Activision’s current Call of Duty port table and assigning the PS5 a fixed local IP. Do not use UPnP and overlapping manual rules together.

Activision’s own router tests start with UPnP and only move to static IP plus port forwarding if the easier path still fails. - Pause large downloads and high-bandwidth streams while repeating the home-network test. If only the home connection continues to fail, give the alternate-network result to the ISP instead of repeatedly changing the console.
Checkpoint: If only the alternate network works, keep the case with the router or ISP. If both connections fail identically, undo test-only router changes and continue to Method 6.
6. Repair Local State Only When an Update or Content Problem Is Visible
An interrupted update can leave the local cache or content database out of step with the installed game. Safe Mode rebuilds that local state. Use it only when an update failed, content appears inconsistent, or the error survives normal services, two networks, and the correct accounts.
- Check once more that Black Ops 6 and the PS5 system software have no pending, paused, or failed updates.
- Turn off the PS5. Follow PlayStation’s Safe Mode startup instructions, connect the controller by USB, and open Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
- Select Clear System Software Cache first. Use Rebuild Database only if the installed-content or update state still appears wrong; it scans the drive and recreates the content database rather than deleting your saved games.

PlayStation still uses Safe Mode cache and database repair when the console’s local content record is acting out of sync. - Review Activision’s Black Ops 6 Known Issues page. If no matching issue is listed, use the bug-report path from the Black Ops 6 support page.
- Include the complete PUGET – ALTUS message, PS5 system version, region, date and time, and the results of the account and alternate-network comparisons. Those details tell support whether the failure follows the account, the console, or the connection.
Checkpoint: If cache repair works after an interrupted update, the PS5’s local content state was stale. If one account still fails on two networks, contact Activision. If PSN sign-in or other online games also fail, use PlayStation support instead. Those comparison results are more useful than another reinstall.
