Not Receiving My Gmail Emails in my Hotmail Accounts (Fix)

You may not receive emails from in the Hotmail if the Gmail address (or the Gmail domain) is blocked in the Hotmail settings. Moreover, the full storage space of the OneDrive may also cause the issue at hand. The issue arises when the user fails to receive Emails in Hotmail from the Gmail domain or Gmail addresses.

Not Receiving Emails from Gmail in My Hotmail

Before moving on with the solutions to get Gmail through Hotmail, check if the emails from Gmail are not routed to your Junk folder of Hotmail. If so, then select the email and click on Not Junk to check if that resolves the Gmail issue.

1. Unblock the Email Address and Gmail in the Hotmail Settings

You may fail to receive emails from Gmail if you have intentionally or unintentionally blocked the email address or the whole Gmail.com domain in the Hotmail settings (some users reported that blocking a single Gmail address, caused the whole Gmail.com domain to be blocked). In this context, unblocking the email addresses (or the Gmail.com domain) in the Hotmail settings may solve the problem.

  1. Launch a web browser and steer to the Hotmail (Outlook website).
  2. Now, near the top right of the window, click on the Gear/Settings icon.
  3. Then open View All Outlook Settings and select Junk Email.
    Open View All Outlook Settings
  4. Now, in the Blocked Senders and Domains, check if any Gmail-related addresses (or the Gmail.com domain) are blocked.
  5. If so, click on the Trash icon and then repeat the same for all Gmail addresses in the list.
Delete Gmail.com Address from the Blocked Hotmail List
  6. Now click in the Search List box and type Gmail.com (it may not show in the list but reported to come up when searched for).
  7. If Gmail is shown, delete the Gmail.com domain by clicking on the Trash icon (make sure you click on the Save button afterward) and check if Hotmail is receiving the emails from Gmail.
Search and Delete Gmail.com in the Blocked Hotmail List

2. Add the Email Address and Gmail to the Safe Senders and Domains

If unblocking the Email address did not do the trick, then the email address (or the Gmail.com domain) is triggering the Hotmail’s internal security mechanism, and adding the email address (or the Gmail.com domain) in the Safe Senders and Domains list may solve the problem.

  1. Launch a web browser and steer to the Hotmail (Outlook website).
  2. Now click on the Settings/Gear icon and choose View All Outlook Settings.
  3. Then select Junk Email and under ‘Safe Senders and Domains’, click on Add.
Click on Add in the Hotmail Safe Senders List
  4. Now enter the problematic Gmail address and hit the Enter key.
  5. Then repeat the same for all the problematic Gmail addresses and check if the Gmail issue is resolved.
  6. If not, again click on Add under ‘Safe Senders and Domains’ and enter the following one by one (but this may create issues in blocking the spammy Gmail addresses):
    *@gmail.com

    gmail.com
Add Gmail.com in the Hotmail Safe Sender List
  7. Now press the Enter key after each one (make sure you click on the Save button afterward) and then check if Hotmail is receiving emails from Gmail.

3. Delete the Unnecessary Files/Folders from the OneDrive

You may encounter the Gmail issue if the OneDrive storage is nearly full. In this context, deleting the unnecessary files (or purchasing the additional storage space) may give you the required space and thus solve the problem.

  1. Launch a web browser and steer to the Hotmail (Outlook website).
  2. Now click on the Gear icon and open Options. Then check the drive storage used.
    Check OneDrive Storage
  3. If the storage is full or over and you are using a OneDrive client (like the Windows OneDrive application), then right-click on the OneDrive icon in the system’s tray and choose Settings.
    Open OneDrive Settings
  4. Now click on Unlink This PC and in the dialogue box shown, confirm Unlink Account.
Unlink Your PC in the OneDrive Settings
  5. Now steer to the OneDrive website and delete all the unnecessary files/folders (make sure to back up the essentials).
  6. Once enough storage space is available, then check if the Gmail issue is resolved.

4. Edit Hotmail Rules

You may not receive emails from Gmail in the Hotmail if a Hotmail rule is affecting the Hotmail-Gmail communication. In this context, editing the Hotmail rules may solve the problem.

  1. Open the View All Outlook Settings of Hotmail (as discussed above) and select Rules.
    Check Hotmail Rules for Gmail
  2. Now check if a rule is a setup that is causing the Gmail issue.
  3. If so, delete the problematic rule and check if the issue is resolved.
  4. If not, click on Add New Rule and enter the rule’s name (e.g., Gmail Rule).
  5. Now click on Select A Condition and choose From.
Create a New Gmail Rule and set the Condition to From
  6. Then enter the following in the address box and hit the Enter key:
    *@gmail.com
  7. Now click on Select an Action dropdown and choose Mark as Read.
Set the From Value to *@gmail.com
  8. Then checkmark Stop Processing More Rules and click on the Save button.
Set Action to Mark as Read and Checkmark Stop Processing More Rules
  9. Now check if the Gmail issue is resolved.

5. Enable ‘Let Devices and Apps Use POP’ in the Hotmail Settings

You may encounter the Gmail issue at hand if the POP settings are not properly configured in Hotmail. In this case, enabling the POP for devices and apps may solve the problem.

  1. Launch a web browser and steer to the Outlook website.
  2. Now click on the Gear/Settings icon and open View All Outlook Settings.
  3. Then select Sync Email and under Let Devices and Apps Use POP, click on Yes (in the POP Options section).
Enable Let Devices and Apps Use POP
  4. Now check if the Gmail issue is resolved.
  5. If not, then open Sync Email (repeat steps 1 to 3) and under Manage Your Connected Accounts, hover over the problematic Gmail account.
  6. Now click on the Trash account to remove the Gmail account and click on the Save button.
Delete the Connected Gmail Account in Hotmail
  7. Then, under Add a Connected Account, click on Gmail and then enter details to add the Gmail account.
Connect a New Gmail Account in Hotmail
  8. Once the Gmail account is added, hopefully, Hotmail is receiving emails from the Gmail issue.

If the issue persists, then you may send the mail to the problematic Gmail address and then ask the user to use the Reply feature to communicate with you (till the permanent resolution of the Gmail issue is reported).
