A tight budget does not necessarily mean that your motherboard should be unattractive. The B450M Steel Legend is quite an impressive specimen in terms of aesthetics. It has a unique PCB color with a distinct camouflage pattern over it that makes it look quite unique. ASRock has integrated a big I/O cover in white that perfectly matches the white VRM heatsink and chipset heatsink. However, the B450M Bazooka is a Micro-ATX offering from the same line that does fall into our budget.

Regardless, the B450 AORUS M is another great option if you want a reliable B450 motherboard under $100 with some great features. It is often seen around $85 on most online retailers.

The power delivery system of the Gigabyte AORUS B450 M is not the best we have seen, however, it is still more than enough for most midrange Ryzen CPUs. The ideal pairing for this motherboard would be something like a Ryzen 5 3600 or even the new 5600X with a BIOS update. However, Ryzen 7s and 9s should be avoided for this motherboard specifically.

The B450 AORUS M does have some interesting features, however. It has the standard set of connectivity features with a single 1GbE Ethernet port and the standard storage configuration with a single M.2 slot with 6 SATA ports. The interesting thing about the B450 AORUS M is that it supports the Dual BIOS feature which is a really handy feature that we would like to see on more motherboards. Even premium motherboards skip this feature most of the time which is really a shame. The AORUS M is also equipped with 3-pin ARGB headers which are not commonly found on B450 boards, especially in this price range. The board has 8 rear USB Hub ports, and 6 more can be connected via the internal headers.

Even the M.2 slot has a black heatsink which improves the aesthetics as well. There are some orange accents as well, but mostly the board looks color neutral and quite unremarkable. Fans of RGB Controller lighting might want to look elsewhere because the AORUS M does not have any visible lighting zones on the board.

All in all the Gigabyte B450 AORUS M is a great option for midrange system builders if they are looking for some unique features in a motherboard under $100. It certainly is quite feature-rich, although its mediocre power delivery leaves us wanting for more.

The power delivery system of the ASUS Prime B450M-A is mediocre at best. It uses quite unimpressive components in the VRM and does not even offer any VRM heatsinks. Going up to $85 or $90 would ensure that you get a better motherboard with solid power delivery and a better overall feature set. Is B550 Better Than B450?

To answer this question plainly, yes B550 is a better chipset than B450. The real question is if it is worth upgrading to a B550 motherboard or choosing it over a B450 board. For most people, our answer would be no. While B550 gives you PCIe Gen 4 and more PCIe lanes, there’s not much more it has to offer. Sure, the wired network speed is better with some models, but that’s about it. B550 is likely also the last chipset on the AM4 platform, so that’s something to keep in mind if you care about futureproofing.

Will AMD Keep The AM4 Socket?

At one time, AMD called their AM4 socket the most flexible platform in x86 history. This is because the chipset has been supported for quite a while now.
