2. Adjust Date and Time

- Right-Click on the bottom-left of your screen where the time and date are present as shown in the image below.
- Click on Adjust Date and time.
- Now, Toggle the Set time zone automatically switch to on.
- Similarly, Toggle the Set time automatically switch to on.
- After that, Click on the Region menu situated in the panel on the left of your screen.
- Set your region correctly.
Once done, Try installing or updating the Sea of thieves. If the issue presumes, continue to the next step.
3. Login with the same account as the Microsoft store
Reportedly, a mismatch in logged-in accounts on the Xbox game app and the Microsoft store causes such problems. Users have reported logging in with the same account on both platforms to fix the problem. Follow these steps:
- Open the Microsoft store and in the top-right corner click on your profile icon.
- Now, Click on Sign Out. After that, Click on Sign in.
- Sign into any account.
- Once done, Open Xbox Game App.
- In the Top-Left make a right-click as shown in the image.
- Similarly, Click on Sign out and log in to the same account as the Microsoft store.
Once you are sure that you have logged into both platforms with the same accounts. Try Installing or updating the sea of thieves.
4. Delete Microsoft Store Cache
It is possible that the cache of the Microsoft store on your computer is corrupt. The cache is temporary storage and it is advised to clear the cache every once in a while. Follow these steps to clear/Delete the Microsoft store cache. Follow these straightforward steps:
4.1 Manually Delete the cache folder
The cache of the Microsoft store is stored inside of your Local Disk C, Follow these steps to manually delete the cache folder:
- Press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the start menu, Open File Explorer.
- Open Local Disk C: and click on Users.
- Double-Click to open the folder with your computer’s Username.
- Now, Click on AppData, If you can not locate the AppData folder follow these steps to view hidden folders.
- Click on the View option as shown in the image.
- Click on Show
- Check the Hidden Items option to view the hidden folder.
- Once in the AppData folder, Click on the Local folder.
- Now, Click on Packages.
- Inside the Packages folder, Locate the “Microsoft.Windows.Store” and double-click to open it.
- Delete the Local Cache folder.
- Reboot your computer.
4.2 Using WsReset
WsReset is an official Microsoft-provided utility tool to delete the Microsoft store cache. It bypasses restrictions placed by the Microsoft store and deletes the cache. Follow these steps to use the Wsreset command:
- Press the Windows key to open the start menu, in the start menu search bar type Wsreset.
- Open Wsreset and wait for a while on the blank command prompt screen.
- After a while, the black command line terminal will close, after that Reboot your computer.
After your computer has safely rebooted, try installing or updating the sea of thieves.
5. Restart Services
A number of services work together to provide smooth end-to-end delivery of content to users. It is possible that one or all of these are not working efficiently, we’ll start by restarting these services. Follow these steps:
- Press the Windows + R keys to open the run dialog box. Type Cmd in the text box.
- Paste the following commands to restart essential services.

6. Reinstall Gaming services

- Press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the windows start menu. In the search box type Powershell and run it as an administrator.
- Paste the following command inside of Powershell command line terminal to uninstall the gaming services currently installed on your computer.
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
- Once uninstalled, paste the following command to install the gaming service updated version.
start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
- Click on Install.
- Once installed, Reboot your computer.
7. Repair and Reset the Xbox app and the Microsoft store

7.1 Repair and reset the Xbox App
Follow these steps to repair and reset the Xbox application
- Press the Windows key and in the windows start menu search bar type Xbox.
- Make a right-click on Xbox and click on App settings.
- Scroll down, Click on Repair under the Reset heading, and wait for a while.
- Once it finishes processing, try installing or updating the sea of thieves.
- If not, Click on Reset and wait for a while. This will reset the Xbox application to default settings.
- Similarly, try launching the Xbox app to check if the issue is fixed.
7.2 Repair and reset the Microsoft store
Follow these steps to repair and reset the Microsoft store:
- Press the Windows key and search Microsoft store in the windows search menu.
- Now, Make right-click on the Microsoft store and click on App settings.
- Scroll down, Click on Repair, and wait for a while.
- After it finishes processing, Open the Microsoft store and try installing or updating the sea of thieves.
- If the issue still presumes, Click on Reset.
- Try Updating or installing the game, if the issue presumes continue to the next step.
8. Uninstall and reinstall the Xbox Game app
If repairing and resetting the application did not work, it is advised to uninstall and reinstall the application in such cases. Follow these steps:
- Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type Powershell and run it as administrator.
- Paste the following command to uninstall the Xbox game app from your computer.
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxApp | Remove-AppxPackage
- Once done, Click here to download the latest version of the Xbox app.
- After you have downloaded and installed the Xbox application, Reboot your computer.
9. Update Windows
It is possible that the current windows version you are running is either outdated or full of bugs. Follow these steps to update your computer to the latest windows build.
- Open the windows start menu by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard.
- Click on Settings to open it.
- Now, In the panel situated on the left. Click on Windows Update.
- Click on Get updates or Install now.
Once installed and updated, Reboot your computer.
