1. Run Discord as Administrator

  2. Now right-click on the Discord and click “Run as administrator”

If the issue is fixed after running Discord as an administrator, you can set Discord to run always as an administrator. Follow these steps:-

  1. Find a Discord Shortcut. Now right-click on it and press “Open file location”.

  3. Head over to the “Compatibility” tab.
  4. Now make sure to check “Run this program as an administrator”.
  5. Now press apply.

2. Rename the Discord Update file

This workaround will make sure that discord doesn’t use the Update file if it’s possibly corrupted discord will instead download a fresh copy of the Update file from the internet and replace the corrupted file with it. To rename the update file follow these steps:-

  1. Hold the Windows Key and Press X. Choose Command Prompt (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
  2. Type the following commands one by one rename the Discord Update file:-
    taskkill /f /im discord.exe
  3. Now press the Windows + R keys together and type %LocalAppData%\Discord.

  5. Now right-click on the Update.exe file and press Rename.
  6. Rename it to “UpdateBackup.exe”.

  7. Now simply open the Discord shortcut from your Desktop and the Update should be successful.

3. Reinstall the Discord Properly

Now you will have to reinstall Discord properly, but first, you will have to uninstall discord from your computer completely. This process can be a bit difficult as some files can be hidden and some of the folders can give you a permission error. We have created a set of commands for you to execute so that you can smoothly and easily fix this issue.

  1. Hold the Windows Key and Press X. Choose Command Prompt (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
  2. Type the following commands one by one completely kill Discord’s process:-
    taskkill /f /im discord.exe
    del /q/f/s %TEMP%\*
  3. Now we will have to delete the Folders Discord located in.
  4. Press the Windows + R keys together and type %AppData%

  5. Find the Discord folder, right-click on it, and press Delete.
  6. Press the Windows + R keys together again and now type %LocalAppData%
  7. Find the Discord folder, right-click on it, and press Delete.

  8. Once these folders are deleted successfully. Open Run again and type “Control”.
  9. Now click the “Uninstall a program” option under the “Programs” category.
  10. Now simply find Discord and uninstall it.

  12. Restart your computer in safe mode with networking. You can learn more about it (here)
  13. After booting into safe mode with networking. Install Discord using the setup you just downloaded.
  14. Now let it do all the updates and check to see if the issue persists.

4. Reset your Network Configurations

If the methods above didn’t work out for you, there is a chance that your Network configurations aren’t correct which is causing Discord to not connect to its servers successfully. We can reset your Network configurations by using CMD with commands. To reset your Network Settings properly, Follow these steps below:

  1. Hold the Windows Key and Press X. Choose Command Prompt (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
  2. Type the following commands one by one to reset your Network Settings.
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns

Restart your computer and check to see if the issue persists.

5. Install Discord Public Test Beta

There is a workaround you can do if your Discord isn’t working. Most people don’t know about it but there is a Discord public test beta client that you can download. It’s official and available on Discord’s website you can download it from (here). Once you download the setup everything is similar to normal Discord. Simply install the Discord PTB and run it. This should definitely work for you as doesn’t have any link to Normal discord’s files whatsoever.
