Bandai Namco Hints At a 2023 Release Window For Tekken 8

The Tekken series has been a defining franchise in the fighting genre of video games. The last mainline entry was released 7 years ago on 18th February 2015. It was the seventh mainline entry in the franchise and the most commercially successful among all its predecessors; by June 2022, Tekken 7 had sold over 9 million copies worldwide.

And fans are impatiently waiting for the next iteration in the series. Although Tekken 8 was announced officially in September 2022 with a cinematic trailer of the game, details on the gameplay and features are still scarce, as no other valuable information has been revealed by Bandai Namco since then.

However, recently during an earnings call Questions and Answers session, Bandai Namco executives might have shed some light on the release date of Tekken; when the Bandai Namco execs were asked about the future games from the studio, they said that Tekken 8 is currently under development intending to release it in sometime in the fiscal year 2023.

We are planning a large number of projects. Tekken 8 is also under development with the aim of launching in fiscal 2023 or later.”

This statement could hint towards a March or later release window, which is not that far, and we might learn more details about the gameplay and new additions to the game.

Bandai Namco has already launched a dedicated Tekken 8 website which mentions their goals for Tekken 8.

TEKKEN 8 pushes the limits of new-gen hardware and technologies. The game features high-definition character models built from the ground-up with high-fidelity skin and hair, along with immersive graphics such as muscles that shift to reflect character movement.

The TEKKEN series holds the record of being the longest-running story in a video game franchise. Just as the ending dialogue of Tekken 7 mentioned, this new entry will focus on the father and son showdown between Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama.”

Undoubtedly, the aim of the studio with Tekken 8 is ambitious. The fact that Tekken 8 is entirely next-gen, specially developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC with the latest Unreal Engine 5, unlocks many possibilities that can be implemented in the game both in terms of visuals and new gameplay mechanics.

While there are not many details about the game, we will keep you posted about any further information. So, what are your thoughts about this? Are you waiting for Tekken 8? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
