How to Stream Crunchyroll on Discord in 3 Easy Steps

What’s better than watching anime? Watching anime with your friends, of course. And what better place to have a watch-party than Discord? So, if you’re planning to have a watch-party for next week’s Jujutsu Kaisen episode, you’ll want to have your Crunchyroll account and Discord all set up. With our guide, you can do just that and get your popcorn ready in the meantime (along with some tissues).

Streaming Crunchyroll on Discord is possible and quite similar to sharing your screen for other apps. However, some users encounter a black screen when streaming Crunchyroll on Discord. This black screen only appears for the viewers on the Discord stream, preventing your friends from watching along with you.

Setting up the Stream

Before worrying about the black screen, you should set up your stream by adding your browser as a registered game in Discord. Doing so enables the browser to behave similarly to a game during screen sharing. To set this up, follow these instructions:

Step 1: Log in to Crunchyroll and open up Discord’s settings

First, open your preferred browser and log in to Crunchyroll.

How to Fix the Black Screen Issue When Streaming Crunchyroll on Discord

If the black screen issue occurs, even after adding your browser as a Registered Game, it may be due to copyright protection. Luckily, some tweaks in Discord and browser settings can resolve this problem.

1. Disabling Hardware Acceleration, OpenH264 Video Codec, and enabling Advanced Technologies on Discord

Hardware acceleration involves shifting certain tasks from the CPU to other hardware in your system, like the GPU. When enabled, Discord uses GPU power for better video encoding during screen sharing.

Disabling hardware acceleration on Discord might cause your stream to lag if your hardware is not very strong.

To disable Hardware Acceleration on Discord, follow these steps:

  1. Open Discord Settings.
  2. In the App Settings category, select “Voice and Video”.
  3. Scroll down to the Video Codec section.
  4. Disable both Hardware Acceleration and OpenH264 Video Codec options.

  5. Scroll down to the Screen Share section.

2. Disabling Hardware Acceleration on your browser

Browsers often have hardware acceleration too. To disable Hardware Acceleration on your browser, follow these steps:

  1. Open your browser and click on the three dots at the top-right corner of the window.
  2. Click on Settings.
Opening Browser Settings Opening Browser Settings
  3. In the search bar, look for Hardware Acceleration and disable it.

Once hardware acceleration is disabled on both apps, restart the stream, and you should no longer encounter the black screen issue on your Discord stream.

3. Changing your browser

If the issue persists, it might be related to your browser. You can resolve this by installing Mozilla Firefox. This browser lets you stream any video type on Discord without encountering black screen or visual problems.
