Riot Games Rumored To Be Working On A MMOFPS Based in Valorant
You can tell Riot Games has a lot of multiplayer games in the works if you spend any time browsing their job postings or press releases, even though many of them are unlikely to ever see the light of day. The massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that everyone has been following is just one example. Well, here’s another one from a devoted follower who’s obviously spent too much time perusing want advertisements: Project T.
A Reddit user by the name of RiotMMO has pieced together a long string of tweets, rumors, and job postings that all point to the game in development being a AAA MMOFPS with player vs player combat, a global economy, player housing, character growth, and seasonal events.
According to him, it is speculated that the game might be set in the Valorant world, which is itself a leading FPS game at the current moment.
This speculation arose during a Valorant’s in-game survey asking players how they’d feel playing different games within the Valorant universe. Not with standing this, there has been no evidence to confirm or deny Project T will be in the VALORANT universe.
Project T Discovery and Evidence
On February 17, 2023, Discord user NanoPIX#7517 made the first public announcement of the existence of Project T.
NanoPIX discovered another tweet moments after the discovery.
Speculations were confirmed when a job posting that first stated “Project T” was later withdrawn. Two people who were involved in the initiative were also confirmed in the tweet. Even while this job advertisement wasn’t the first to mention Project T, it is the only one that remains after Riot took down all the others.
Job Requirements
A game designer is needed, per the ad, to create, modify, and perfect the player’s experience. Developers can only iterate on an existing system if there are assets and a playable environment to work with. If that’s the case, then Project T might even be more developed than Riot’s MMORPG!
Intriguingly, this position calls on candidates to assert leadership over camera angles outside of direct battle.
Furthermore, the job listing specifies that the Riot Project T game will be a live service. As a result, the concept of a live service game has become nearly standard in today’s market. It’s encouraging to hear Riot propose maintenance and upgrades for an unfinished game.
Although it’s possible that these postings are for more than one position, the fact that Project T was initially referenced by this codename in some of the postings before being removed is still odd.
The title may have been canceled, differ from what is described in the job postings, or have nothing to do with the MMORPG, which may no longer exist. We have no idea. A new massively multiplayer online first-person shooter that isn’t just another looter-shooter would be interesting, though.
