Sony and Guerrilla Games Are Collaborating on a New Horizon MMO Game

Soon after Sony announced PSVR2 earlier this month, we saw Guerrilla Games and Sony collaborating on a virtual reality spinoff of the critically acclaimed game Horizon: Zero Dawn. But now there’s word that Sony and NCSoft are actively working on a massively multiplayer online game set in the same world as 2022‘s Horizon: Forbidden West.

According to MTN, a South Korean news outlet, the title is codenamed Project H, as indicated by job ads. No additional information is provided in the report, but Guerilla Games has reportedly long experimented with the idea of incorporating multiplayer into the Horizon series. In addition, there were supposed to be co-op modes in both Horizon: Zero Dawn and this year’s Horizon: Forbidden West, but for some reason, they were entirely scrapped.

However, that isn’t going to stop Guerilla Games from attempting to put in more effort. Reports suggest that the developer is hard at work on a PC and PS5 multiplayer spin-off. Last year, Guerilla Games advertised for a senior social systems manager to work on a mystery online game. This person’s responsibility would be to develop infrastructure for players to engage in “social interactions” and form “guild-like groups.” Another posting wanted a senior writer with experience in “narrative design in open-world RPG games, online games, and MMORPGs.”

As for any official word, NCSoft has been evasive about the project’s existence, claiming, “It is difficult to confirm information about unpublished projects that are currently in development.” Furthermore, the tweet that follows perfectly sums up the games in the Horizon series that are currently in works.

We may see more content added to Horizon: Forbidden West in the future, as similar comments were made earlier this year, teasing the addition of new content to the game.

As more details about Horizon: Forbidden West become available, we will update this article accordingly.
