[Fix] 0X803F800B Error When Launching a Xbox One Game
The error code 0x803F800B shows up when an Xbox One game fails to start and you see the message, “Check your subscription.” This code means that your Xbox can’t find a valid subscription that is needed to play the game, like Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Live Gold.

The most common reason for this is that your subscription has expired or been cancelled. Sometimes, this happens if your game license was removed because you changed your region or lost access to a shared account. This error may also appear if the account that originally bought the game isn’t signed in, or if that account isn’t set as the “home Xbox.”
In this article, we will discuss different way to solve this error.
1. Renew Your Gold Subscription
Before trying other fixes, make sure your Xbox Live Gold subscription is still valid.
You might see this error when trying to access a game that was included for free with your Gold subscription. Remember, you only have rights to play these games as long as your Gold subscription is active.
If you’re unsure whether your Gold subscription is current, follow these steps to check on your Xbox console:
- On your Xbox dashboard, press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide menu.
- Use the right trigger to highlight the System tab. Then, select the Settings menu and press A to enter the settings.
Accessing the Settings menu on Xbox One - Inside the settings menu, use the left thumbstick to select the Account tab on the left.
- Move to the right section and select the Subscription menu (under Account).
Accessing the Account > Subscription menu on Xbox One - In the Subscriptions menu, you’ll see if your Xbox Gold subscription is still active, along with the expiration date.
- If your subscription has expired, you will need to renew it to avoid the 0x803f800b error when trying to play a game you previously claimed for free.
Note: You can renew your subscription directly from the Subscriptions menu, or buy a code from a local retailer, from the official Microsoft Store, or from an authorized online seller.
2. Verify the Status of Xbox Live Servers
A problem on Microsoft’s servers can also prevent your console from verifying game ownership. If your subscription is active, the next step is to make sure there isn’t a bigger outage or service problem.
Fortunately, Microsoft provides official resources to check if Xbox Live is experiencing any issues. Start by visiting the official Xbox Live status page to see if there are problems with the Core Services.

If any important services are down, you should also check the Twitter account of Xbox Support for updates on outages or maintenance.
Note: If other users in your area are having the same issue, you’ll need to wait for Microsoft to fix the problem on their end.
3. Perform a Power Cycle on Your Console
This error can also happen because of a temporary glitch or a firmware issue that makes your console think your Gold subscription is expired when it’s not. If you’re sure your subscription is active, try power cycling your Xbox.
This step clears any old data from the power capacitors and can resolve temporary problems.
- With your console turned on, press and hold the Xbox button on the front for about 10 seconds. Keep holding until you hear the fans turn off and the front lights go off.
Pressing the power button on Xbox One - After the console is fully off, wait at least one minute before turning it back on. For a more thorough reset, unplug the power cable from the console for about 15 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Turn the console back on using the Xbox button. Wait for the console to fully boot up.
Note: If you see a longer-than-usual Xbox startup animation (more than 3 seconds), this means the power cycle worked.Xbox One long starting animation - Once your Xbox is on, try launching the game that showed the 0X803F800B error. See if the issue is resolved.
4. Reinstall the Game Causing the Error
If you only see this error for a specific game you bought digitally (not through the Gold program), you might be facing a license issue. Xbox One doesn’t have a direct way to restore licenses like the PS4, so you’ll need to reinstall the game to refresh your license.
- Press the Xbox button on your controller and go to the Games & Apps menu.
Accessing the My games & Apps - In the Games & Apps menu, find the game you want to uninstall. Highlight it, then press Start > Manage game.
Managing an app / game - On the right, select Uninstall all to remove the base game and all related add-ons or expansions.
Uninstalling the game - Once the game is uninstalled, go back to the Manage menu and open the Ready to install section.
- Find the game you just uninstalled and select the Install button to reinstall it and restore your license.
- After reinstalling, try launching the game again to see if the 0x803f800b error still shows up.
If the problem continues, move to the next step.
5. Contact Microsoft Support
If none of the above solutions worked and you’re sure your Gold subscription is still active, you should reach out to Microsoft for help with the 0x803f800b error.
- Go to the Contact Us Page and click on Contact Us (under Still Need Help).

In the new pop-up menu, select Games & Apps, then choose I can’t play a digital game under What is the issue. Next, select Xbox One as your platform and click Next.
Then, click Choose your account, sign in, choose your preferred contact method, and wait for a Microsoft agent to assist you.
When a support person contacts you, they’ll verify your account and help resolve the problem.
