Muzan Kibutsuji’s Death Explained
Muzan’s death has multiple layers, and it is not accurate to say that he died after just one battle with the Demon Slayer Corps or due to Tanjiro’s extreme Yorichi-style sword skills. It is important to understand that Muzan had immense power, as he was the first-ever demon. All the demons in the Demon Slayer universe are nothing but his subjects.
To put it simply, Muzan’s death involves nearly four layers. If any one of these layers had been absent, it would have been nearly impossible for the Demon Slayer Corps or Tanjiro to defeat him. No human, except Yorichi, was able to inflict severe damage on Muzan. Therefore, it’s important to understand all the factors or forces that contributed to Muzan’s ultimate demise.

1. Tamayo & Shinobu’s Layered Anti-Demon Medicine
Tamayo has been the queen of the show with her exceptional medical abilities and sheer determination to defeat the Demon Lord. The Demon Slayer manga revealed in Chapter 193 that Tamayo anticipated Muzan to be way too strong to be killed by the Demon Slayer Corps combined.
So, she devised a plan to gradually weaken him until his core powers no longer responded to the Demon Slayer Corps’ attacks. In Chapter 193 of the Demon Slayer manga, Tamayo collaborated with Shinobu. Both of these fierce ladies created a layered medicine with the potential to slow down Muzan’s movements and gradually weaken his powers.
It’s sad that Shinobu and Tamayo, despite being extremely important characters in the story, did not participate in the final battle. However, both of them silently and cunningly defeated their enemies without the enemies even realizing it!
2. Muzan Weakened By Demon Slayer Corps in Infinity Castle Arc
The second blow to Muzan’s powers occurs in the Infinity Castle Arc. The Demon Lord comes face-to-face with the remaining members of the Demon Slayer Corps. During this arc, the members manage to keep Muzan engaged in battle, leading him to suffer lethal injuries
In Chapter 199 of the manga, Muzan tries to escape the sun, but the strongest Hashira, Himejima, restrains him with chains. However, the sun is not powerful enough to burn him completely, and he manages to break free from the chains.
3. Dismembered By Tanjiro for One Last Time!
The third layer of attacks that weakened Muzan to death was from Tanjiro and his exceptional sword skills. The moment Muzan is released from Himejima’s chains, Tanjiro strikes his body with his sword. These attacks dismember Muzan.
However, during this, Muzan attempts his final attack on Tanjiro, attempting to absorb him. Later, Tanjiro retaliates, and Muzan, along with his remaining body parts burns in the sun.
4. Blood Consciousness Implantation Defeated by Kanao & Nezuko
Besides being extremely powerful, Tanjiro’s sword strikes really hit Muzan at the core of his abilities. However, because Muzan absorbed Tanjiro, he was able to manipulate Tanjiro’s consciousness through his blood. Before completely leaving his body, Muzan attempted to transfer his blood cells and powers to Tanjiro.
This was a move to resurrect himself later in Tanjiro’s form. This plan went really well, and his blood transformed Tanjiro into a demon that was also immune to the sun. However, later in Chapter 202, both Kanao and Nezuko restore Tanjiro’s humanity.
Tanjiro, portrayed as an extremely kind, humane, and loving protagonist, turns into a deadly demon. However, his sister Nezuko, who serves as his ultimate emotional anchor, and Kanao (his love interest), succeed in bringing him back to humanity.
Muzan, on the other hand, tried his best to stop Tanjiro, as this was his last chance. But Tanjiro sees his fallen comrades and wakes up as a human again. Why not check out what we have to say about Tanjiro? Read Tanjiro Kamado & The Beauty of Altruism to know what makes him unique!
