How to Fix WhatsApp Communities Not Showing?

WhatsApp Communities may be missing because you are using the Business app, an outdated or unsupported build, or an account that has not been given the same Communities interface as another account on the same phone.

The confusing part is that the feature does not fail the same way for everyone. One account may show the Communities tab, another may only show joined community groups, and another may have no New Community option at all.

1. Check Whether You Are Using WhatsApp Business

WhatsApp Business is the first thing to rule out when the New Community option is missing. WhatsApp’s create-community help currently notes that community creation is not available in the Business app.

A business number may still appear in community-related chats, but that is different from having the full community creation flow in regular WhatsApp Messenger.

  1. Check whether you are using WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business.

    If Communities are missing, the first thing to rule out is that you are using the Business app rather than the regular Messenger app.
  2. If you are in WhatsApp Business, test from the regular WhatsApp Messenger app before clearing cache or reinstalling.
  3. If possible, compare with a regular WhatsApp account on the same phone.

If Communities are missing only in WhatsApp Business, the app type is the likely reason. If you are already using regular WhatsApp Messenger, check the entry point and app build next.

2. Check the Communities Entry Point, Then Update the Official WhatsApp App

On regular WhatsApp Messenger, Communities should appear as a dedicated entry point in the app. If the tab is missing, incomplete, or missing New Community, make sure the app is current and official before changing account data.

  1. Open WhatsApp and look for the dedicated Communities entry point.

  2. If the tab exists, open it and check whether you see New Community or only joined communities.

  3. Update WhatsApp from the Play Store or App Store.

    If the Communities UI is stale or incomplete, the official store build is the first thing to update.

  5. Restart the phone once after updating, then check Communities again.

If Communities appear after the update or official-app reinstall, the problem was the build. If the same app behaves differently across accounts, compare accounts next.

3. Compare Another WhatsApp Account on the Same Phone

Communities can differ by account. If one account on the same phone shows the tab or New Community option while another does not, the phone itself is probably not the main problem.

  1. If you can test another WhatsApp account on the same phone, check whether it shows the Communities tab or New Community option.
  2. If one account has Communities and the other does not, note the app type for both accounts.
  3. Take screenshots showing the same phone and app version with different Communities behavior across accounts.

If the missing UI follows one account, local cleanup may not force it to appear. If Communities used to show on this same regular account and then disappeared, refresh the app state next.

4. Refresh WhatsApp’s Local App State After Business and Version Checks

This step is useful when Communities used to appear on the same regular WhatsApp account, or when the screen looks stuck after an app update. It is not meant to bypass a Business-app limitation.

  1. Force close WhatsApp and reopen it after restarting the phone.
  2. On Android, open Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Storage and clear the app cache.

    Clearing cache can help when the Communities UI used to be there or the app keeps loading an older interface state.
  3. If Communities still do not return, reinstall the official WhatsApp app and restore from backup if needed.

  4. Open WhatsApp again and check the Communities screen before changing anything else.

5. Contact WhatsApp if a Regular Messenger Account Still Does Not Show Communities

After app type, app version, official-build status, and local cache are ruled out, the remaining issue is likely tied to account feature state.

This is especially likely when another account on the same phone can create Communities while yours cannot.

  1. Open WhatsApp’s Help area or the official Contact Us path.
  2. Report that Communities or New Community is missing.
  3. Include whether you are using WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business, your phone model, app version, and whether another account on the same phone shows the feature.
  4. Attach screenshots if the same device behaves differently across accounts.

If Communities return after support or a later app update, the issue was account or feature-state related. Once the tab appears, open it once and check for New Community before reinstalling or switching apps again.
