What is Intel Security Assist and Should it be Disabled?
There have been many reports by users who have observed a function called Intel Security Assist running in the background while using their computers. This sparks controversy as it doesn’t seem to serve any function and is seen to run actively in the background.
What is Intel Security Assist?
Intel Security Assist is a component of Intel’s Active Management Technology. The true purpose of the component hasn’t been declared. But it is rumored that the component collects some information from your computer and passes it on to the manufacturer for unknown purposes. This “Claim” however, is just a rumor and there haven’t been any reports confirming it.
It is to be noted that most of the intel’s post-2006 started including a hardware component that can be used remotely to control certain functions of the computer. This hardware component is said to be the reason such extensive control could be provided to IT managers on their networks. It allowed IT managers to access the Video, Keyboards and Mouse functions of the computers on their networks.
Since Active Management Technology is mostly only used by enterprises and offices which consist of huge networks of computers, it is unlikely that the hardware component has been enabled on your Personal Computer. Therefore, if you are not connected to a large computer network it is safe to say that you don’t have any use for Active Management Technology and the Intel Security Assist component that comes with it.
