Square Enix Announces Symbiogenesis; An Art Collectable NFT Game

Well, it is not Parasite Eve, after all. We reported almost a week ago about a new trademark, ‘Symbiogenesis,’ registered by Square Enix in Japan. Initial speculations on the internet were about it being a Parasite Eve franchise revival based on the meaning of the Symbiogenesis.

However, today Square Enix, in a press release, officially announced Symbiogenesis, a digital collectable art experience for Web3 fans. A basic overview of the upcoming game was also shared.

‘SYMBIOGENESIS’ is brand-new entertainment content set in a self-contained world where a wide cast of characters symbiosis, all of which can be collected as digital art, an interactive story and a dedicated community.

Interestingly the NFTs collected in the game can also be used as a profile picture on social media accounts.

The art can be used for social media profile pictures (PFP) and as a character in a story that takes place in an alternate world where the player can’ untangle’ a mystery by completing missions that revolve around questions of the monopolization and distribution of resources. With each strategic move players make, more of the story unfolds.

The blockchain technology that Square Enix will be adopting is reported to be Ethereum (tentative), which is the second most popular blockchain, just behind Bitcoin. The NFT game Symbiogenesis and a supporting web service are slated for a Spring 2023 release.

With this announcement, Square Enix became the first major studio to implement blockchain technology in their game. However, Square Enix has no plans as of yet to bring NFTs or blockchain to their major and popular franchises like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

Although other than a basic overview, no other valuable information was revealed, we hope that we will learn about Symbiogenesis soon. We will keep you posted about any further information about the game. Until then, let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
