Modern Warfare 2 Topping Charts on Opening Weekend

After its worldwide release on October 28th, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been a recurring point of discussion. The game has received an overwhelming response breaking many records and topping charts on its opening weekend.

The fact that its beta was the largest ever for a Call of Duty game meant that its success was inevitable. Activision also admitted that COD Modern Warfare 2 was the most successful COD launch ever. They thanked the community for this amazing response in a tweet below:

With almost $800 million in “sell-through” in just the first three days after its release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has had a stunning launch. This figure makes Modern Warfare 2’s opening weekend sales higher than those of any other Call of Duty game, including the previous record holder, Modern Warfare 3, which was released in 2011

In terms of worldwide box office, MW2’s release is unparalleled, outperforming both “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” box office openings combined.

To put things in perspective, back in 2013, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V made $1 billion in sales in only the first three days. Even if MW2 doesn’t overtake that number, the figures are still pretty impressive considering some of COD’s recent subpar releases. What does this mean for the COD industry as a whole?
Well, from the looks of it, it looks like the game isn’t dead and is here to stay.

Warzone 2 releases on 16th November, so it would be really interesting to see what Infinity Ward has in store for us there. Till then, if there’s anything, we’ll make sure to keep you updated.
