SOLVED: Lenovo Camera Not Working (Shows a line through it)

A Lenovo laptop camera displaying an icon with a line through it typically means the camera is disabled, often due to the activation of Lenovo’s Privacy Mode via the Lenovo Vantage or Settings applications. This Privacy Mode, designed to protect user privacy, is the most common cause of the issue.

Additionally, the camera may be disabled through a function key (usually F8) or by altered settings within Windows. Other potential factors include outdated drivers or software conflicts that can prevent the camera from functioning properly, despite the green light indicating it is on.

How to Fix Lenovo Camera Not Working

How to turn on the Lenovo camera on my Lenovo laptop? This section addresses the scenario where the camera is not working on your Lenovo laptop and the steps listed below are used to turn it on.

Lenovo camera not working on Windows 10:  This error refers to the problem where your camera is not working with the operating system installed being Windows 10.

Lenovo Yoga 720 camera not working: The laptop model Yoga 720 is known to have problems with the inbuilt camera not working. This primarily occurs because of the default privacy settings in place, which we will change later on.

Solution 1: Change Camera Privacy (Settings)

If you are affected by this issue, fret not, as it is caused by the silliest of things – your laptop’s webcam being set to Private mode in the Settings. To fix this problem and get your Lenovo laptop’s webcam working again, set the webcam to Normal mode.

  1. Open the Start Menu by pressing the Windows Logo key on your keyboard.
  2. Click on Search in the top right corner of the Start Menu.
  3. Search for “Settings”. NOTE: This is not PC Settings; it is Lenovo Settings that you need to open.2016-04-14_023914
  4. Click on the search result named “Settings”. This search result will have a gear icon beside it.
  5. Locate and click on Camera to launch the settings for your Lenovo laptop’s webcam.
  6. Under the Settings section, you will see that your webcam is set to Private. Click on Normal to set your webcam to Normal mode.lenovo camera
  7. You should start seeing whatever your webcam sees under the View section almost immediately after you do so. If you do start seeing video under the View section, the issue has been fixed and you can exit the Settings.

Solution 2: Change Camera Privacy (Lenovo Vantage)

Lenovo Vantage is a set of program utilities that enable users to perform maintenance tasks and access settings. It consists of a single console that allows users to access various tools and perform different tasks on the computer. If you have newer laptops, you might not see the Settings as shown in the solution above. You can try this fix and see if it solves the problem.

  1. Press Windows + S, type “Lenovo Vantage” in the dialogue box, and open the application from the results. The application is mostly installed by default. If it isn’t installed, you can download it from the Microsoft Store. Once the application is installed, skip all the features displayed on the window unless you want to use them.

  1. Now navigate to Hardware Settings > Audio/Visual.
  2. Once in the settings, navigate to the bottom of the screen where you will find the camera privacy mode. Turn it off and restart your computer.

  1. Now check if the problem is solved.

For Windows 10 Users, Here Is The Fix
If you have the latest Lenovo hardware, Settings won’t work anymore.

    A new Fix:
next to the Win. icon on the bottom left side on the screen (For Win 10 users)

Search “Lenovo Vantage” (Cause In the Settings It says “It has been Merged with Lenovo Vantage”
If You don’t have Lenovo Vantage, Install It here:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/lenovo-vantage/9wzdncrfj4mv?activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab
Once It is installed, skip all the things, you won’t need it (only applies to people who won’t ever use it again)

    Now, Navigate To Hardware Settings>Audio/Visual
Once you’re there, scroll down to “Camera Privacy Mode” right below the slashed Camera Image, then turn It off. Cheers!

The lenovo Voltage setting (solution 2) worked for me. Does anyone know why the camera setting turned it off (I swear I don’t remember changing any camera setting) automatically?
