How to Connect your Roku Device to Google Home

Roku is a streaming player capable of providing top content channels on your TV. They may include Roku TV, Roku Express, Roku Ultra, Streaming Stick, and Roku Premiere among others. Therefore, you can make your Google Home assistant control your Roku device.

Requirements for connecting Roku to Google Home

Therefore, you must ensure you have a Roku Account and your Roku device should be updated to the latest software version. To work with Google Assistant, your device must be running Roku OS 8.1 or later versions. To check or update the software version of your device, you will have to follow the steps below:
- Turn on your Roku TV, streaming stick or any other Roku device.
- Click on settings on the top left side of the screen.
- Select system and the Software Update.
- Click on Check now.
- Your device will display to you that “All software is up to date” if you are already on the latest version or it can go ahead and download the updates if you are not updated.
Furthermore, you will need to have the Google Home app in your Android device or iOS device. This can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the App Store. To achieve so, follow the steps below:
For Android users:
- Go to the Google Play Store on your phone.
- Search for the Google Home app in the search bar.
- Click on Install.
For iOS users:
- Go to the App Store on your phone.
- Search for the Google Home app in the search bar.
- Next, click on Get.
Also, you need to ensure that you have a stable internet connection and both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Once all of the above are all available, you will be now in a good position to connect the two devices together.
Connecting Roku to Google Home Assistant
Now that you have everything in place, you can now begin to connect your device to Google Home. Be sure to follow the systematic procedure outlined below in order to achieve a fruitful connection:
- Launch the Google Home app on your phone.
- Click on Add located at the top section of the screen.
- Next, tap on “Set Up Device.”
- Select the option for “Works with Google.”
- Scroll down and select the Roku option.
- Next, sign in to your account with the right credentials. After signing in, click on “Accept and Continue.”
- Select the device you would like to link to the Google Home Assistant and then click on “Continue to the Google app.”
Note: You can only link a single Roku device to your account at a time.
- Click on Done.

The voice command should always start with “Hey Google” or “OK Google” followed by the command you want to issue.
