Fix: Google Photos Showing in a Different Language

If Google Photos suddenly appears in a different language, it means the app is following your Google Account, device, or browser settings. Because Google Photos doesn’t have a built-in language switcher, it automatically adopts the language currently active on your Google profile.

Google Photos showing another language

This often happens after a system update, a region change, or a Google Account sync refresh. Since 2025, Google made Photos fully dependent on your account language across all devices, which can cause unexpected changes when your account and device settings don’t match.

Because of this, Google Photos may switch languages even if you haven’t modified anything inside the app. The only way to fix this is by adjusting your Google Account, phone, or browser language preferences.

Disabling “Automatically add languages” stops Google from detecting and adding secondary languages based on your region or browsing activity. When left enabled, this feature can add extra languages that cause Google Photos to change its interface automatically. Turning it off ensures that Photos (and other Google apps) remain locked to your chosen language across all platforms.

  1. Go to myaccount.google.com.
  2. Navigate to Personal InfoLanguage.

  3. Turn off “Automatically add languages” and remove any additional ones, keeping only your preferred language.
    Disable Automatically Add Languages
  4. Wait around 24 hours for Google to sync the changes across all connected devices and apps.

Note: Existing stories or memories already generated will stay in their original language, but any new ones will now appear in the language you’ve selected.
