FragPunk Won’t Start? Here’s How to Fix It

If FragPunk refuses to launch on your system, it is likely due to hardware or software compatibility issues. One of the most common causes is the lack of AVX2 support or it being disabled in the BIOS, as this feature is required for the game to run correctly. Other possible reasons include insufficient user privileges, outdated GPU drivers, or an outdated motherboard BIOS.

In some cases, the problem arises because FragPunk struggles to initialize under DirectX 12, suggesting that API compatibility could be a factor. Below are the most common causes of this issue and their solutions.

1. Enable AVX2 Support in BIOS

AVX (Advanced Vector Extensions) allows your CPU to process complex tasks faster, such as game computations, AI, and rendering. Many modern games require this feature for proper operation.

  1. Restart your computer. As it restarts, press the BIOS key repeatedly. This is usually one of the following: Delete, Esc, F2, F10, or F12.
  2. Open a tab labeled Advanced, Tweaker, or CPU Configuration.
  3. Look for options such as AVX, AVX2, or Advanced Vector Extensions. Some BIOS versions may list this under Intel Virtualization, CPU Features, or Power/Performance Settings.
  4. Set all AVX-related options to Enabled.
  5. Press the key shown for Save and Exit.
  6. Allow your system to reboot and then try launching FragPunk again.

2. Run as Administrator

Running the game as administrator grants it the necessary permissions to access protected system files. Without these privileges, FragPunk may fail to start.

  1. Go to the folder where FragPunk is installed.
  2. Find the game’s .exe file, right-click it, and select Run as administrator.

3. Update Graphics Driver

If your GPU driver is outdated, it may lack support for new rendering features like DirectX 12 or Vulkan. Updating ensures compatibility and prevents crashes or launch errors.

  1. Right-click the Start icon and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters.
  3. Right-click your graphics card and select Update driver.
  4. Click Search automatically for drivers.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.
  6. Restart your PC and try launching FragPunk again.

4. Launch the Game with DX11

FragPunk may fail to start with DirectX 12 or Vulkan on certain systems. Switching to DirectX 11 can improve stability and prevent crashes.

  1. Open Steam and go to your Library.
  2. Right-click FragPunk and select Properties.
  3. Under the General tab, find Launch Options and type:
    -dx11

  4. Close the window and try launching the game again.

5. Update Motherboard BIOS (For Advanced Users Only)

\If you are using a newer CPU (like Intel’s 13th or 14th-gen) with an outdated BIOS, features like AVX2 may not work properly. Updating the BIOS ensures full CPU compatibility.

To do this, visit your motherboard manufacturer’s official website, download the latest BIOS version for your model, and follow their instructions to update via a USB drive.
