Fix: Windows has stopped this device (Code 43)

We are happy when everything is working well. Sometimes, because of some issues, we can not finish daily tasks or use our computer or notebook. One of the hardware devices we are using are Bluetooth device, internal or external. In modern notebooks, Bluetooth device is integrated on motherboard. If you need additional Bluetooth device, you can purchase on web shop and install on your computer or notebook.
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code-43)

If you decide to buy Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, speakers or another device, you can do it, but before purchasing you should check is that Bluetooth device compatible with your operating system. If you are using Windows 10, and Bluetooth device is compatible only with Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can not install and use that device.

One of the issues end users are having is issue with Bluetooth device. A Bluetooth device stops working and you can not use it. If you access Device Manager and navigate to your Bluetooth device, you will see error: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43).

Why this error occurred? There are few reasons, including Bluetooth device is faulty, problem with services, not up to dated drivers and others.

We created ten solutions which will help you to solve problem with your Bluetooth device.

Method 1: Check is your Bluetooth device turned on

Sometimes, users are encouraging problem because their Bluetooth devices is turned off. So please check is your Bluetooth device turned on or off, by pressing key on your keyboard to activate Bluetooth device. Where is key located? It depends from notebooks manufacturer. We are recommending you to read technical documentation of your notebook. If you are using additional USB Bluetooth device, including mouse, speakers, headphones or another, please check are they turned on, too. If they are using battery to work, check are batteries inserted in Bluetooth device or not.

Method 2: Test Bluetooth device on another machine

To be sure that your Bluetooth device is not faulty, we are recommending you to check is it working on another computer or notebook. If you are using USB Bluetooth device, please try to test Bluetooth device on another notebook or computer. If you do not have another computer or notebook, please read next method.

Method 3: Restart your Windows

If your Bluetooth device is not faulty and if USB Bluetooth device is working on another computer or notebook without any problems, we are recommending you to restart your Windows. After your computer or notebook boot Windows, unplug Bluetooth device from USB port, and after that plug in Bluetooth device on another USB port.

Method 4: Run Troubleshoot tool

Sometimes we do not know from where we should start troubleshooting problems. Microsoft helped us by creating Troubleshoot tool which is integrated in Windows operating system. We will show you how to use Troubleshooting tool to detect potential problem with Bluetooth device. For this method we use Windows 10, but do not worry, because procedure is the same for another operating systems, from Windows Vista to Windows 8.1.

  1. Hold Windows logo and press R
  2. Type control panel and press Enter
  3. Filter applets by Category and then click System and Security
  4. Click Troubleshoot common computer problems under Security and Maintenance
  5. Select Bluetooth and click Run the troubleshooter
  6. Troubleshooter will diagnose problem with Bluetooth device. If Troubleshooter finds an issue with Bluetooth device, troubleshooter will try to fix it and you will get notification that problem was solved by troubleshooter, as you see on next image. If Troubleshooter did not solve issues, please try next method.
  7. Test your Bluetooth device

Method 5: Uninstall USB Controllers

If you are using USB Bluetooth device, you will need to uninstall all USB devices on your computer or notebook. You will do it through Device Manager. Procedure for uninstalling USB ports is the same for all operating system, from Windows Vista to Windows 10. If you are not using USB Bluetooth device, but you have a problem with integrated Bluetooth device, you should read next method.

  1. Hold Windows logo and press R
  2. Type devmgmt.mscand press Enter
  3. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controller
  4. Right click to USB Composite adapter and then click Uninstall
  5. Click Uninstall to confirm uninstalling USB Composite device
  6. Uninstall all devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller list
  7. Restart your Windows
  8. Test your Bluetooth device

Method 6: Update driver for Bluetooth device

If first five methods did not solve your problem, next will be updating driver for Bluetooth device. We will show you how to uninstall Bluetooth device on notebook Dell Vostro 5568 and how to download the latest driver for Bluetooth device. First step will be uninstalling Bluetooth device and after that installation of the latest driver for Bluetooth device. If you are using USB Bluetooth device you will need to download the latest driver from vendor website.

  1. Hold Windows logo and press R
  2. Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter
  3. Expand Bluetooth devices
  4. Right click on Intel Wireless Bluetooth and click Uninstall device
  5. Select Delete the driver software for this device and then click Uninstall
  6. Wait until Windows finish uninstallation
  7. Restart your Windows
  8. Download the latest Bluetooth device for your notebook. For this test, we are using notebook Dell Vostro 5568, and we will visit Dell website on this LINK
  9. Navigate to Driver – Network, and then Qualcomm QCA61x4A And QCA9377 WiFi And Bluetooth Driver
  10. Install Qualcomm QCA61x4A And QCA9377 WiFi And Bluetooth Driver
  11. Restart your Windows
  12. Test your Bluetooth device

Method 7: Start Bluetooth Service Support service

Maybe some services are not running, and because of that your Bluetooth device is not working. There is service named Bluetooth Service Support which needs to be started. The Bluetooth service supports discovery and association of remote Bluetooth devices.  Stopping or disabling this service may cause already installed Bluetooth devices to fail to operate properly and prevent new devices from being discovered or associated. We will show you how to enable Bluetooth Service Support service. At first you will need to disable Bluetooth device through Device Manager, start Bluetooth Service Support service and after that re-enable Bluetooth device.

  1. Hold Windows logo and press R
  2. Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter, to open Device Manager
  3. Expand Bluetooth
  4. Right click on Intel Wireless Bluetooth and click Disable device
  5. Click Yes to confirm disabling Bluetooth device
  6. Minimize Device Manager window
  7. Hold Windows logo and press R
  8. Type services.msc and press Enter, to open Services tool
  9. Navigate to service named Bluetooth Support Service
  10. Right click on Bluetooth Support Service and select Properties
  11. Under Startup type select Automatic
  12. Click Start to start Bluetooth Support Service
  13. Click Apply and then OK
  14. Open Device Manager
  15. Expand Bluetooth
  16. Right click on Intel Wireless Bluetooth and click Enable device
  17. Restart your Windows
  18. Test your Bluetooth device

Method 8: System Restore

Sometimes after Windows update or some system changes, Bluetooth device stops to work. Solution for this to revert your Windows to previous state, before that update or system changes. One of the steps end users are ignoring is creating system restore checkpoints. If you are not one of the users who ignored this, we are recommending you to restore your Windows to previous state using System restore. If you know when audio worked without problems, revert your Windows to that date. If System Restore is not enable on your computer, then you need to read Method 9. We are recommending you to enable System Restore, by reading this LINK.

  1. Hold Windows logo and press Enter
  2. Type rstrui.exe and press Enter
  3. Click Choose a different restore point and click Next
  4. Choose proper checkpoint and click Next
  5. Click Finish
  6. Restart your Windows and wait until Windows finished system restore
  7. Test your Bluetooth device

Method 9: Update your BIOS

Sometimes when your computer or notebook have a problem with hardware components, best solution is to update BIOS or UEFI firmware. We will show you how to update BIOS / UEFI on ASUS P8B75-M motherboard. At first you need to know current version of BIOS or UEFI.

  1. Hold Windows logo and press R
  2. Type msinfo32.exe and press Enter
  3. Navigate to BIOS Version/Date. In our example, current version is 1606, developed 3.3.2014.
  4. Open Internet browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Edge or other)
  5. Open ASUS’s website to download new BIOS version, so open this LINK. As you see there is new BIOS version 1701, which you need to download, on your USB flash drive.
  6. Restart your computer
  7. During boot process press F2 or Delete to access BIOS or UEFI
  8. Press F7 to access Advanced mode
  9. Click OK to confirm accessing Advanced mode
  10. Choose ASUS EZ Flash Utility
  11. Select update file from USB flash drive and click Install
  12. Restart your Windows
  13. Run msinfo32.exe  again and check current BIOS version to be sure that BIOS is successfully updated to newer version
  14. Test your Bluetooth device

Method 10: Change Bluetooth device

The last method you can try is to change Bluetooth device. If you are using integrated Bluetooth device and if you still have a problem with error code 43, we are recommending you to purchase compatible USB Bluetooth device for your computer or notebook.
