Adventure Sync not Working

Pokemon Go’s Adventure Sync might not work if you are using an outdated version of the Pokemon Go app or if you are using any type of battery saver/optimizer. If you are using a manual timezone on your device, then it can result in issues as well. Low accuracy mode is also one of the reasons for Adventure Sync showing no physical activity data. If the required permissions, especially storage and location permissions are not granted to Pokemon Go, then the application can exhibit access problems too.

How to Fix Pokemon Adventure Sync Issues?

Before trying the solutions listed, please read through the following:

  1. Make sure Adventure Sync is on and connected in Pokemon settings.
  2. Restart your device and launch the installed health app (i.e. Google Fit or Apple Health). Then check if it is recording your steps. And then open Adventure Sync to check if it is working correctly.
  3. Check if your device is compatible with Adventure Sync and the apps required by it. For example, HTC One M8 is incompatible with Google Fit and thus cannot be used with Adventure Sync.
  4. Keep in mind that there can be a delay of up to several hours (in some cases, it can take up to 24 hours) for Adventure Sync to sync your steps with your device’s health app (i.e. Google Fit or Apple Health).
  5. Do note that data manually entered in your health apps like Google Fit and Apple Health will not count in the Adventure Sync app. Remember that data entered, through 3rd party apps, is considered as manual unless it is using Google Fit API or Apple Health API.
  6. Check if the apps required by Adventure Sync (Google Fit or Apple Health) is keeping track of your physical activity.
  7. Make sure that the Pokemon Go app is fully closed because if it is running even in the background with a Go+, then Niantic will use their distance tracking and thus Adventure Sync will not work.
  8. Check if your device has the required sensors to track your distance and steps.
  9. Do note that Adventure Sync has a speed cap of 10.5 km/h and any distance covered by a speed greater than this speed, will not be recorded in Adventure Sync.
  10. Logout of the Pokemon Go app and related health apps i.e. Google Fit/Apple Health. Then sign back in and check if the problem is solved.

You can make Adventure Sync work and issues with it can be fixed by following the solutions mentioned below:

Update Pokemon Go App to the Latest Version

Pokemon Go app is continuously updated to keep up with newly emerging technologies and patch up any known bugs. The issue you are facing may already have been patched in the latest version of the app. In that case, updating to the latest version may solve the problem. The Pokemon Go app is available for Android and iOS. For illustration purposes, we will use the Android version, you may follow the instructions as per your platform.

Turn Off Battery Saver Mode of Your Device

New Smart Mobile devices have a battery saver mode to increase the battery timing of the device by limiting the background operations of sensors, services, and applications. But if the Pokemon Go app and its required health applications like Google Fit and Apple Health are not exempted from the battery saver mode, then it can cause the issue of the distance travelled not being recorded by Adventure Sync. In that case, either exempt these apps from the battery-saver mode or turn off the battery-saver mode (recommended) entirely. For illustration, we will follow the Android version of the Pokemon Go app, you may follow instructions about your device’s platform.

  1. Open your Device Notifications by swiping down (or swiping up) from the top of the screen.
  2. Then click on Turn Off Battery Saver.
    Turn Off Battery Saver
  3. You can reconfirm through your Battery/Optimize Battery/Power Saver menu. If your device supports it, exempt Pokemon Go and Google Fit/Apple Health from battery optimization.
  4. Keep in mind that Adventure Sync is not affected by the Pokeman’s Battery Saver mode.

  1. Close the Pokemon Go app.
  2. Open Settings of your Android Device
  3. Then scroll down, look for Date & Time and then tap on it to open.

  11. You will be prompted to connect Adventure Sync with Google Fit.
  12. Link both services and check if the problem is solved.

For Apple Health, open Apple Health>>Sources>>Apps and check if Pokemon Go is shown in connected services/applications.

Change Permissions for Pokemon Go and the Concerned Health App

If your Pokemon Go app and related health app (i.e. Google Fit or Apple Health) do not have the required permissions, then they won’t be able to access your physical step information, as it will be considered private. In this case, giving the required permissions to the apps may solve the problem.
