Fix: Windows Insider Build Ran into an Error (Green Screen Of Death)
Green Screen of Death (GSOD) occurs in Windows Insider Builds exclusively, indicating that your system has crashed and encountered an error. This error indicates a critical problem in the Windows Insider Build. The most common cause of this issue is corrupted system files or issues with a recent update, often leading to the GSOD: Windows Insider Build ran into an error.
When facing this error, you may not be able to boot into Windows. To fix this issue, you must either boot into Safe Mode or use the recovery options. Enabling Safe Mode will allow you to make changes to the operating system, while the recovery options will do the same without needing to boot into Safe Mode.
- To use the recovery options, simply shut down your computer completely.
- Once your computer is shut down completely, press the Power button to turn it back on.
- Repeat the above steps three times to trigger the Automatic Repair.
- Then, click Advanced Options > Troubleshoot.
- Here, you will see the advanced recovery options that you will use in the upcoming methods.
2. Repair System Files
Often, users fix this issue by repairing the corrupted or missing system files that are essential for Windows to function properly. To repair the system files, we use the SFC (System File Checker) command, a command-line utility that scans and repairs the corrupted system files.
2.1 From Recovery Options
- Access the recovery options by following the steps in Method 1.
- Then, select the Command Prompt to open it.
- In the Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow and hit Enter to execute it.
- Once done, exit the Command Prompt and restart your computer to see if the problem is resolved.
2.2 From Windows
- Open the Start Menu and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
- Once the Command Prompt is opened, type sfc /scannow and hit Enter to execute the command.
- Once the command is executed, exit the Command Prompt and restart your computer to see if the issue is fixed.
3. Use a System Restore Utility
Using a system restore utility can revert your Windows version to a previous state. If you created a restore point before installing the Windows Insider build, reverting the Windows PC should allow you to exit the Windows Insider build, which should resolve the ‘Windows Insider Build ran into an error’ issue.
- If you booted into Safe Mode, open the Run Program by pressing the Win + R keys simultaneously.
- Then, type rstrui in the input box and click OK to run the system restore utility.
- Otherwise, simply select a System Restore utility from the recovery options.
- Click Next and select a Restore Point created before you started encountering this issue or before you updated to the Windows Insider build.
- Once done, click Next and click Finish to proceed with the restoration process.
4. Reset Windows
If you don’t want to leave the Windows Insider Program, you can opt to reset Windows without losing data. You will find the Windows Reset option in the Recovery menu, which you can use to reset Windows and ensure the corrupted files are restored.
4.1 Recovery Options
- To do so, access the recovery options and select Reset this PC.
- Select Keep My Files and follow the on-screen instructions to reset Windows.
- Once done, this should resolve the issue.
4.2 From Windows
- Click the Start Menu and type Reset this PC.
- Click Reset PC and select Keep My Files.
- Then, select Local Reinstall and click Next.
- Finally, click Reset to proceed with the resetting process.
5. Reinstall Windows Without Losing Data
Another way to exit the Windows Insider Program is to clean install the current operating system. This will not only remove you from the Windows Insider Program but also install fresh system files that might have become corrupted or gone missing, resulting in this issue.
