How to Fix Verizon Network Not Working in Smartphone?
The network Verizon may not work on your phone or device mainly due to network issues. These issues might range from a glitch in your phone’s communication modules to a nationwide Verizon outage. Issues range from:
- Not being able to make a call
- Not being able to text
- Having no data reception
- Having poor service where either of the services is not stable.
In some cases, only one aspect is affected whereas other services keep working fine e.g., calling or texting not working but Verizon data usage is fine, or calling not working but texting and data usage are fine.
For some users, the problem was only limited to incoming or outgoing calls. There are people who reported that the phone showed full signal bars whereas others reported no bars were shown. An OS update, a new SIM, or switching to a new phone is also reported to cause the issue. The following problem is reported on all types of mobile devices like iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, Android phones, Android Watches, and even on Verizon FIOS devices.
1. Enable and Disable the Airplane Mode of the Device
Enabling and disabling airplane mode (which cuts out all the communication signals from the device) may resolve the issue. For illustration, we will go through the process on an iPhone. Before moving on, make sure the issue is not a result of a nationwide Verizon outage or is caused by a Verizon tower outage in your local area.
- Launch Settings of your iPhone and enable Airplane Mode.
- Now wait for 5 minutes and then disable Airplane Mode.
- Afterwards, check if Verizon is working fine.
2. Force Restart the Problematic Device
A temporary glitch in the communication modules of the problematic device may cause Verizon not to work and restarting the problematic device may solve the problem. For illustration, we will discuss the process of restarting/force restarting an iPhone.
- Press the power button on the iPhone and on the power menu shown, slide to power off the iPhone.
- Now wait for a minute and then power on the iPhone to check if the problem is solved.
- If not, tap on the iPhone’s volume up button, and then press/release the volume down button of the iPhone.
- Now press and hold the side button of the iPhone.
- Then keep holding the button on the power options menu and once the Apple logo screen is shown, release the button.
- Once the iPhone is properly powered on, check if Verizon is working fine.
- If the issue persists, power off the iPhone and remove the SIM card from the phone.
- Now power on the iPhone (without the SIM card) and once properly powered on, power off the iPhone.
- Now reinsert the SIM card into the iPhone and then power on the iPhone.
- Once properly powered on, check if the Version problem is solved.
- If that did not work, check if another SIM card (from a different carrier) works fine on your phone. If so, then you may reinsert the Verizon SIM card to check if the issue is resolved.
If the issue is occurring with Verizon FIOS, power off the Verizon’s Fios ONT (Optical Network Terminal), unplug its power cable, wait for 2 minutes, plug back the ONT’s power cable, power on the ONT, and then check if the Verizon FIOS is working.
3. Enable CDMA-Less Provisioning on the Verizon SIM
Verizon CDMA-Less Provisioning means a SIM that can use 4G or 5G technology, not like traditional CDMA which is only limited to 2G or 3G. If your phone is failing to use the 2G or 3G version of the Verizon network, then enabling CDMA-Less Provisioning on the Verizon SIM may resolve the issue as the newer phone models are more inclined to use newer technologies.
- Launch a web browser and head to the Verizon website.
- Now log in using your credentials and head to My Devices.
- Then select Activate or Switch Device and click on Activate on An Existing Line which will enable CDMA-Less Provisioning on your SIM.
- Now fill up the details as per the requirements (if asked) and then restart your phone to check if Verizon is working again.
4. Update the OS to the Latest Version
You may face network issues with Verizon if the OS of your device is outdated. This can be especially applicable to the devices that were purchased through Verizon. In such a case, updating the OS of the problematic device to its latest version may fix the issue. Before moving forward, make sure the device’s battery is fully charged. Also, it would be a good idea to create a backup of the device to avoid any catastrophe due to the update going wrong.
For an iPhone
- Steer to your iPhone Settings and select General.
- Now open the option of Software Update and install the iOS update (if available).
- Once done, restart your iPhone and upon restart, check if Verizon is working fine on the iPhone.
For an Android Phone
- Head to the Android phone Settings and open About Device.
- Now select Software Update and in an Android OS update is available, download and install the update.
- Once updated, restart the Android phone, and afterwards, check if the Android phone is clear of the Verizon problem.
If that did not work, update the Verizon carrier settings on your device and restart the device to check if the problem is solved. If the issue is occurring with the Verizon app, then you may need to update it as well.
5. Change Network Selection Mode to Manual
If your device is failing to automatically catch signals from Verizon, manually selecting the carrier in the device’s network selector may do the trick.
For an iPhone
- Launch Settings of the iPhone and open Cellular.
- Now select Network Selection and then disable Automatic by toggling its switch to off.
- Then, in the list of networks, select Verizon, and check if the issue is resolved.
- If Verizon 5G network did not work, you may select Verizon 4G and check if the problem is cleared.
For an Android Phone
- Launch Settings of your Android phone and select Wi-Fi & Network.
- Now open SIM & Network and in the case of a multi-SIM phone, select the problematic SIM like SIM 1.
- Now open Network Operator and then disable Auto Selection.
- Then manually search for the network and select the Verizon network.
- Now check if Verizon is working fine on your Android phone.
- If not, check if selecting the Verizon 4G network (not 5G) clears the problem.
6. Create a New APN in the Device Settings
Verizon data may not work if the APN settings of your device are outdated or corrupt and are no longer compatible with Verizon’s requirements. In this case, creating a new APN for Verizon in your device settings may resolve the issue.
For an iPhone
- Launch the iPhone Settings and open Mobile data. Next, select Mobile Data Network.
- Now scroll down and tap on Reset Settings.
- Once done, restart the iPhone, and afterwards, check if the problem is solved.
- If not, head to the Cellular tab in the iPhone settings and open Mobile Data Network
- Now, create a new APN and enter the following (for the USA):
APN: vzwinternet Username: (leave it blank) Password: (leave it blank)
- Then restart your iPhone and afterwards, check if the Verizon problem is cleared on the iPhone.
For an Android Phone
- Launch Settings of your Android phone and open Wi-Fi & Internet.
- Now select SIM & Network and tap the problematic SIM like SIM 1.
- Then open Access Point Name and near the top right, tap on the three vertical ellipses.
- Now select Reset to Default and then restart your Android phone.
- Upon restart, check if the Verizon problem is solved on your Android phone.
- If not, repeat steps 1 to 3 to open the Android phone’s Access Point Name Settings and add a New Access Point with the following details (for the USA):
Name: Verizon APN: vzwinternet Username: (Leave blank) Password: (leave blank) Proxy: (leave blank) Port: (Leave blank) Server: (leave blank ) MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms MMS Proxy: (leave it blank) MMS Port: 80 MCC: 310 MNC: 012 Authentication type: (none) APN type: default,mms,supl APN protocol: (IPv4) Bearer: (Unspecified) Mobile virtual network operator: (none)
- Now save the changes made and then restart the Android phone to check if the problem is solved.
If that did not work, check if texting APN to 611611 (to update the APN to the latest APN configurations) resolves the issue.
7. Edit Data Options of the Problematic Device
Data on Verizon may not work if the Data Options of the problematic device are not anymore compatible with the Verizon network or the related settings have gone corrupt. Here, editing the data options of the problematic device may solve the problem.
On an iPhone
- Launch the iPhone Settings and select Mobile data.
- Now open Mobile Data Options.
- Then select Voice & Data and tap on LTE.
- If not, repeat steps 1 to 3 to open Cellular Data Options in the iPhone Settings
- Now open Voice & Data and disable VoLTE.
- Then restart your iPhone and upon restart, check if the Verizon service is working fine on your iPhone.
- If that did not work and you are abroad, check if enabling Roaming (beware of extra costs) in the device’s Data Options solves the problem.
On an Android Phone
- Launch Settings of your Android phone and open Wi-Fi & Network.
- Now select SIM & Network and tap on the problematic SIM.
- Then make sure LTE is enabled for data only (if applicable) and check if the problem is resolved.
- If not, repeat steps 1 to 2 to open the problematic SIM settings and disable VoLTE or disable Enhanced 4G LTE Mode by toggling its switch to off.
- Now restart your phone and upon restart, check if Verizon is working on the Android phone.
8. Reset the Network Settings
Verizon might fail to work properly if the network settings of the problematic device have become corrupt so resetting the network settings of the problematic device may clear the problem. Before moving ahead, do not forget to note down or back up the essential info (like Wi-Fi credentials) that may be required later.
For an iPhone
- Head to Settings on the iPhone and select General.
- Now tap on Reset and in the options shown select Reset Network Settings.
- Then confirm to reset the network settings and once done, power off the iPhone.
- Now remove the SIM from the iPhone and power on the iPhone (without the SIM card).
- Then power off the iPhone and put back the SIM card.
- Now power on the iPhone and check if the problem is cleared.
- If that fails, remove the SIM from the iPhone and repeat steps 1 to 3 to reset the iPhone’s network settings (without inserting back the SIM).
- Then insert back the SIM and power on the iPhone to check if Verizon is working fine on it.
For an Android Phone
- Launch Android phone Settings and head to the System tab.
- Now select Reset Options and tap on Reset Wi-Fi, Mobile, & Bluetooth. In some models, you may see the option of Reset Network Settings.
- Then confirm to reset the Android’s network settings and once done, power off the Android phone.
- Now remove the SIM from the Android phone and power on the phone (without the SIM card).
- Then power off the phone and re-insert the SIM into the Android phone.
- Now power on the Android phone and once properly powered, on, check if the phone’s Verizon working issue is resolved.
- If that did not work, remove the SIM card from the Android phone and repeat steps 1 to 3 to reset the network settings of the Android phone (without putting back the SIM).
- Now insert back the SIM into the Android phone and power it on to check if the Verizon problem is cleared.
If that did not work, check if using a new Verizon SIM in your phone solves the problem. If that did not work, check if enabling E-SIM on your phone solves the problem. If E-SIM is already enabled, check if disabling it or getting a new E-SIM on the phone solves the problem.
9. Reset All the Settings to Defaults
If a misconfiguration or corruption of a setting on the problematic device has interrupted the phone’s mobile network operations, then that could cause the problem at hand. In this scenario, resetting all the settings of the problematic device is a good option.
Before moving forward, make sure you have noted down all the essential info (like accounts, Wi-Fi credentials, etc.) that is required later.
For an iPhone
- Steer to Settings on the iPhone and head to the General tab.
- Now open Reset and tap on the Reset All Settings option.
- If asked to, enter the iPhone’s passcode and then confirm to reset all the iPhone settings.
- Once done, restart the iPhone and check if Verizon is working fine on the iPhone.
For an Android Phone
- Head to the android phone Settings and select General Management.
- Now open Reset and in the options available, tap on Reset All Settings.
- Then, if asked to, enter the Android phone’s password and confirm to reset all the settings of the Android phone.
- Once done, restart the Android phone and check if Verizon is working normally on the Android phone.
10. Resetting to Factory Defaults
Verizon may not work on the problematic device if the OS of the device has become corrupt. Such corruption might have occurred when the latest OS update failed to properly apply to your device. In such a case, resetting the problematic device to its factory defaults may clear the issue. Before moving on, make sure to back up the device and fully charge it.
For an iPhone
- Launch Settings of your iPhone and tap on General.
- Now select Reset and in the resulting menu, press the option of Erase All Content and Settings.
- Then confirm to reset the iPhone to the defaults and if asked to, enter the passcode of your iPhone.
- Now, wait till the reset process completes, and once done, set up the iPhone as per your requirements but as a new device (not restored through a backup).
- Then, hopefully, Verizon will be working fine on your iPhone.
If not, check if reinstalling the iOS on your iPhone through iTunes clears the Verizon problem.
For an Android Phone
- Steer to Settings on your Android phone and select General Management.
- Now open Reset and in the resulting menu, tap on Factory Data Reset.
- Then, if asked to, enter the password of your Android phone and then confirm to reset the Android phone.
- Once done, set up the Android phone as a new device and hopefully, the Verizon working problem would be solved on your Android phone.
If none of the above worked, you may contact Verizon support and ask them to ensure that the IMEI number of your phone is registered/compatible with their database. If the device’s IMEI is not compatible with Verizon, then you may return/replace the phone from the manufacturer.
