How To Unblock a Number on Any iPhone or Android

Blocking someone due to anger, frustration, or simply a misunderstanding is something most of us have experienced. However, it’s not uncommon to eventually give the other person another chance and want to reverse that decision.

In such cases, you’ll need to unblock that person first. Welcome to the ultimate guide on unblocking phone numbers and restoring communication on both Android and iPhone devices. Without further ado, let’s get started.

How To Unblock a Number On Android

Many Android phones like Pixel, OnePlus, OPPO, and others use the Google Dialer app as their default phone application. On most devices, you’ll find it simply called “Phone“.

  1. Open the Google Dialer app and tap on the three dots icon at the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Select the Settings option from the dropdown menu.
  3. Tap on Blocked Numbers under the General section.
  4. You’ll see a list of blocked numbers. Each number has an “X” icon next to it.

  5. Tap the “X” icon, then tap Unblock to remove that number from your blocked list.

Keep in mind that if you block a saved contact, only the number—not the name—will appear in the blocked list. Double-check to make sure you are unblocking the correct number.

How To Unblock a Number On Samsung

Certain Android phones, such as Samsung, have their own custom dialer app rather than the Google Dialer. Although the process is quite similar, we’ve included a dedicated section for Samsung users since it’s the most popular Android brand.

  1. Open the dialer app and tap on the Keypad option at the bottom left of your screen.
  2. Tap the three dots icon at the top right, then select Settings from the menu.

  3. Select the Blocked numbers option. This will show you a list of all blocked numbers.
  4. Every blocked number will have a “” sign next to it. Tapping this symbol will immediately unblock the number—no extra confirmation needed.
  5. On Samsung devices, if the blocked number is saved as a contact, its name will also appear below the number in your blocked list.

These steps for both Google and Samsung dialers should help you understand how to unblock a number on almost any Android device, even if the dialer app looks a bit different.

How To Unblock a Number On iPhone

Unblocking a number on an iPhone might look a bit different than on Android, but it’s also straightforward. We have a dedicated guide for iPhone users—check it out here: How To Unblock a Phone Number on Any iPhone

Can You Unreport a Number?

Reporting a number is slightly different from just blocking a number. When you report a number, you’re letting your phone manufacturer and network carrier know that a certain number might be suspicious or spam. While you can unblock a number at any time, you cannot ‘unreport‘ a number. Don’t worry—one report from you usually won’t get a number permanently banned by your carrier.

Usually, you’ll see the option to report a number while blocking it. Just make sure not to report someone you know, since this action cannot be undone. If you block and report a person, unblocking their number will let them call and message you again—your report won’t prevent that.
