Netflix Officially Announces Stranger Things VR Game for All Major VR Platforms
It will be safe to say that Stranger Things is the biggest show on Netflix after viewers watched 7 Billion minutes of ‘Stranger Things’ in the week after Season 4 debuted, breaking the Nielsen Streaming record. So anything related to classic 80s-themed horror show is a direct hit if done properly, whether it is Stranger Things related merch or a game.
Recently Netflix has also shown interest in developing AAA games based on their shows and has built a dedicated studio to implement the idea. It looks like they want to start with a VR game based on their biggest show, Stranger Things. Netflix has officially announced Stranger Things VR, an immersive experience that will let you play as the evil Vecna who plagued Hawkins in the show’s latest season.

Your main objective in the game is to capture Eleven and her friends and trap them upside-down, similar to the show, but the main difference is that in the game, it’s YOU who will haunt the town, not the Vecna, and YOU are the curse of Vecna. As the official description of the upcoming game says:
Play as Vecna in this new Stranger Things adventure in VR.
Become an explorer of unknown realities as you form the hive mind and tame the void. Invade minds and conjure nightmares in your quest to enact revenge on Eleven and Hawkins. Stranger Things VR is a psychological horror/action game developed by Tender Claws and coming to major VR platforms in Winter 2023.”
It is definitely a unique idea and can be an immediate hit if it is done on the source material’s scale and standards. However, it is not the first time we are seeing a game based on Stranger Things; Stranger Things 3: The Game and Stranger Things: 1984 are two small scale retro style video games based on the show that were built into the Netflix app and as well as are available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Besides these two games, a Stranger Things VR experience was unveiled in 2017 but as more of a demo than a full-fledged game. But with this new VR game that Netflix has just revealed during the Stranger Things Day celebrations, fans have high expectations from the game right off the bat precisely due to the high bar the series has set over the years.
The studio behind the development is Tender Claws which have developed games like Virtual Virtual Reality, Virtual Virtual Reality l 2, and The Under Presents. Furthermore, it is also not the first VR game in the horror genre; Capcom has managed to deliver one of the best Resident Evil VR games based on Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7, which were well received by the community.
Fans are looking forward to the VR iteration of Stranger Things, and it will be exciting to see how Netflix will deliver this game to the fans.
