Ubisoft Officially Reveals The First Concept Images of The Splinter Cell Remake
Today marks the 20th Anniversary of the stealth action-adventure video game series Splinter Cell. On this special day, Ubisoft Toronto released a new video cherishing the 20 years of legacy and shedding some light on the upcoming ground-up remake of the original Splinter Cell.
In addition, Ubisoft Toronto also revealed the first official concept images of the remake, which you can see below.
Devs in the video are also Splinter Cell fans who expressed their passion and excitement for the remake. They gave a simple overview of how things will work in this remake. First, they cleared that this would not be a simple remaster of the original game. Instead, it will be an entirely built-from-scratch project, improving not only the visuals of the game but the stealth mechanics and gameplay of the Splinter Cell remake will be reworked completely.
It’s not simply a remaster, it’s being built from the ground up, we get to do all the content from scratch, fresh and ready to go,” Creative Director Chris Auty said.
Yeah, we’re aiming to create this top-tier remake and push quality as much as possible. This should help us set a good foundation for the franchise going forward”, Zavian Porter, Associate Level Design Director added.
On top of that, the remake’s plot will also be reimagined for the modern-day audience. However, this was already public knowledge as a while ago, a job posting on Ubisoft’s website was spotted looking for a scriptwriter to adjust the story of the classic for the modern-day audience.
The lighting will also be improved to give the protagonist a stealthier approach than before, but the game’s AI will also be bumped to balance the gameplay. However, with the improved AI, the dev team still wants to give the players an upper hand to de-escalate the conflict once spotted by the AI soldiers; this was implemented in the later games of the Splinter Cell series, but it looks like it is making its way to the remake of the original game.
Devs also assured the fans that the real essence of the original Splinter Cell from 2002 would be visible in the remake. Splinter Cell Remake will utilize the latest hardware and technology to deliver a fresh experience for the fans with the power of Snowdrop Engine.
However, the team has also mentioned that the remake is very early in development, and the team will go in the dark for a while to solely focus on the remake, and we might not hear many details about it anytime soon.
We want to make sure that we absolutely nail the game, we actually do everything the right way and produce an absolutely stellar quality experience”, Auty said.
Not only the remake of the original game is in the works, and an animated series for Splinter Cell is also said to be in the making at Netflix.
We have some exciting things coming up as well with Splinter Cell. There’s an animated series that’s being worked on with our friends at Netflix as well as the Remake itself which of course we know because we’re all working on that.”
