Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened Gets a New Trailer, Offering Game Details and Paying Tribute to the Ukrainian Victims
The long wait is over, as we get a sneak peek at what the Sherlock Holmes remake might look like.
Frogwares, a Ukrainian studio, presented a brand-new teaser for Sherlock Holmes The Awakened, a remake of their 2007 game, at yesterday’s Golden Joystick Awards. Along with the trailer, the studio provided an update on the difficulties they’ve been having due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Frogwares took the opportunity to educate the audience about the conflict in Ukraine; the trailer honors the victims of the Russian invasion. The trailer features both the gameplay footage and the struggles the studio overcame to get to this point. The video even starts with the sentence ” This game is dedicated to all of those that lost their lives and livelihood due to the terror that swept this nation”
The entire project was built from the ground up on Unreal Engine 4. The plot is basically the same as the original, although a quick synopsis is included in the video’s description for those who haven’t played the game. It goes like this: ‘An Eldritch god-obsessed cult is making moves in the shadows to bring about a world-altering prophecy and it’s up to the young detective duo to thwart their plans. This is a creative take on what horror-filled and reality-breaking events could have met our heroes at such a crucial point in their lives to go on and shape them into the characters we all know they become. Delve into the trauma and fear that cements their friendship for good and the revelations that break Sherlock’s mind to create the flawed and haunted genius he is destined to be.’
The company that was behind the project decided not to include any kind of combat in the game because they did not want to take the attention away from the game and what made it unique in the first place.
We've been seeing questions about combat in The Awakened. The answer is no, there won't be combat. Since the game is a remake of the original title, there was no place for it. The focus is on story, investigation, and Eldritch horror.
