How to Setup MFC-J425W, J430W, J435W Wirelessly using the Printer’s Control Panel

Brother’s multifunction all-in-one printer series offers convenient and economical solutions for home and small office users. Brother’s MFC-J425W, MFC-J430W, and MFC-J435W are quite similar in features. They all have wireless printing features. It means that you can connect these printers to your existing Wi-Fi network. Before you can start printing, you need to configure the printer to print over Wi-Fi connection. Please follow these instructions to connect your Brother printer to your computer or device through Wi-Fi network.

Note: If you have previously configured your printer to connect to Wi-Fi, you need to reset printer’s network setting before connecting it to another Wi-Fi network. To do this, follow this procedure.

How to Reset Brother’s Printer Wi-Fi Settings

Press Menu on the printer.

Press up or down arrow and choose Network. Then press OK.

Press up or down arrow and choose Network Reset. Then press OK.

Press 1 two times for Yes to confirm the changes.

Before you start connecting your Brother printer, please make sure you meet the following requirements.

  • You have a Wi-Fi wireless network available.
  • You know the name (SSID) of your Wi-Fi network.
  • You have the password (network key) of your Wi-Fi network.

Note: If you your Wi-Fi router supports WPS or AOSS, you can connect the printer without a password.

How to Setup Brother MFC J425W, J430w, J435W Wirelessly Using the Printer’s Control Panel (One-Push configuration using WPS or AOSS)

If your Wi-Fi router supports One-Push configuration using WPS or AOSS, you can connect your printer using this method.

On your Brother printer, press the Menu, press the up and down arrows to choose Network, and Press OK to proceed.

Press up or down arrow keys to choose WPS / AOSS and press OK.

When Enable WLAN? is displayed, press OK to proceed.

When the LCD displays Start WPS or AOSS, press WPS or AOSS button on your wireless router.

Press OK on the printer and it will try to automatically connect to the network. If the connection is successful, you will see a four-level signal indicator on the upper-right corner of the printer’s LCD screen, and a wireless LAN report will be printed automatically.

Wireless connection setup of your Brother printer is complete. You can see the signal strength of the Wi-Fi network on a four-level indicator at the upper-right corner of your printer’s LCD. Now proceed with the installation of MFL-Pro Suite.

How to Setup Brother MFC J425W, J430w, J435W Wirelessly Using the Printer’s Control Panel (Manual Configuration)

If your Wi-Fi router does not support One-Push configuration using WPS or AOSS, you can connect your printer using manual configuration.

On your Brother printer, press the Menu, press the up and down arrows to choose Network, and Press OK to proceed.

Press up or down arrow keys to choose Setup Wizard and press OK.

When Enable WLAN? is displayed, press OK to proceed.

This will start wireless setup wizard and the printer will search for available wireless networks. When it displays a list of available networks, choose your desired network and press OK to proceed.

Enter the password (network key) and press Use right and left arrow keys to enter lowercase, uppercase, and numbers.

The printer will try to automatically connect to the network. If the connection is successful, you will see a four-level signal indicator on the upper-right corner of the printer’s LCD screen, and a wireless LAN report will be printed automatically. Now proceed with the installation of MFL-Pro Suite.

Installing MFL-Pro Suite

Now, insert your printer’s installation disk into the CD-ROM drive. The setup will start automatically. If it does not start automatically, open the CD-ROM drive in your computer and double-click the installation application.

If the printer model and language screens appear, choose your printer model and preferred language.

On the installation screen, click Install MFL-Pro Suite. Click Yes to accept the license agreement. If User Account Control screen appears, click Yes.

On Connection Type screen, choose Wireless Network Connection, and click Next.

When the Firewall/Antivirus screen appears, choose Change the Firewall port settings to enable network connection and continue with the installation. (Recommended) and click Next.

Note: If you are using a third party firewall, you may need to go to the firewall settings and allow this connection. To manually add the ports to your firewall, use UDP port 54925 for network scanning, UDP port 54926 for network PC-Fax receiving. If you still have a problem with the network connection, add UDP port 137 and UDP port 161.

Choose your printer from the list and click Next.

Click Next and complete the installation of MFL-Pro Suite.
