How to Fix Network Issues After Windows 11 24H2 Update?
There have been numerous reports about network issues following the Windows 11 24H2 update. For some users, this problem arose immediately after the update, but that’s not always the case. Various causes could be at play, like corrupted DNS records, outdated network drivers, improperly configured registry settings, and DHCP issues.
Pinpointing the exact cause of this issue is tricky since it can be different for each user based on their system configuration. By following the steps below, you should be able to resolve the problem. Please ensure you try all the solutions in this guide to completely resolve the issue.
Let’s dive straight into the solutions to fix this issue.
1. Configure WinHttpAutoProxySvc from the Registry Editor
Although the WinHttpAutoProxySvc relates to proxy settings, it is critical for ensuring network connectivity. Setting the Start value to 3 allows this service to run when necessary. Many users have found that configuring this service helps resolve their network issues.
- Open the Run dialog by pressing Win + R.
- Type regedit and press Enter to launch the Registry Editor.
- Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinHttpAutoProxySvc
- Find the entry named Start on the right panel, double-click it, and change its value to 3.
- Click OK, close the Registry Editor, and restart your computer.
- After restarting, check if the problem is resolved.
2. Flush DNS
The IP and cached details may become outdated or corrupted after the Windows 11 24H2 update, which could disrupt your internet connection. Flushing DNS clears outdated domain records and IP information, allowing your system to retrieve fresh data for network services.
- Click the Start Menu and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- In the Command Prompt, enter the following command:
ipconfig /flushdns
- Once completed, see if your issue is resolved.
3. Update Network Drivers
Outdated network drivers may not be compatible with Windows 11 24H2. To prevent network issues, ensure your network drivers are updated.
- Press the Win key and type Device Manager.
- Press Enter to open Device Manager.
- Expand Network Adapters and right-click your Network Adapter.
- Select Update driver and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If no driver is found, right-click the network adapter again, select Update driver, choose Browse my computer for drivers, then Let me pick from a list of available drivers, and install the compatible driver.
- This should fix the issue once completed.
4. Configure the Static IP Address
Network issues might occur if DHCP fails to assign an IP address. DHCP assigns IP addresses automatically, but if it fails, set a static IP to bypass such issues. To do this, follow the steps listed here. If a static IP is already set up, change the settings to Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain the DNS server address automatically from the TCP/IPv4 properties.
5. Reset Network Settings
A network reset returns configurations to default, clears DNS settings, and refreshes TCP/IP and Winsock components. This can resolve errors or conflicts introduced by the Windows 11 24H2 update.
- Open the Start Menu by pressing the Win key.
- Type Network Reset and hit Enter to open the settings.
- Click Reset Now to start the reset process.
If the issue persists, consider rolling back to Windows 23H2, which should fix the network problems. Remember, the rollback is only available for 10 days post-update.
If it’s been more than 10 days, you can use Windows installation media to reinstall the older version. However, the 23H2 update isn’t available on the Microsoft website, so make sure to use the media installation with the older Windows 11 version.
Simply press the Win key and type Reset this PC. You’ll find the Go Back option under recovery options. Click it and follow the instructions to restore Windows 11 23H2.
