How to Fix the msteams_autostarter.exe Error in Microsoft Teams?

When Microsoft Teams experiences issues, it could cause the msteams_autostarter.exe error during system startup. This problem often arises due to corrupted files or missing registry keys essential for managing the startup process.

In some cases, the error may arise due to interference from antivirus software, which can mistakenly block the necessary processes related to Teams, resulting in this issue. By addressing these common causes, you will be able to get rid of this error message.

After detailed research, we have found several methods that you can try to resolve this problem.

1. Repair or Reset Teams

Repairing or Resetting Microsoft Teams will fix the corrupted or missing files essential for the application to launch or function properly. Since Microsoft Teams is struggling to launch at startup, we can first try repairing Microsoft Teams, which will clear the cache files and fix the corrupted files without affecting the user data.

Meanwhile, resetting Microsoft Teams will go slightly further as it not only restores the default settings and fixes the corrupted files but also clears the user’s data, which might be causing this issue.

  1. To do so, open Settings by pressing the Win + I keys simultaneously.
  2. Go to Apps > Installed Apps.
  3. Search for Microsoft Teams, click the three dots, and select Advanced Options.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom and click Repair.
  5. Once done, check if this resolved the issue or not. If not, then click Reset.
  6. Once done, this should resolve the issue. If not, proceed to try other methods.

2. Reinstall Microsoft Teams

As we mentioned earlier, the corruption in the Microsoft Teams files often causes this error. By reinstalling Microsoft Teams, you should be able to resolve the error message.

Reinstalling Microsoft Teams should restore the corrupted files, thereby solving this issue.

  1. Go to Settings by using the Win + I key combination.
  2. Then, navigate to Apps > Installed Apps.
  3. Search for Microsoft Teams, click the three dots, and select Uninstall.
  4. Once again, click Uninstall to confirm.
  5. Once done, open the Microsoft Store, and search for Microsoft Teams.
  6. Then, click the Install button to start the installation process.
  7. Once done, see if this resolved your issue.

3. Disable Microsoft Teams From the Startup

If you are not experiencing this issue when starting Microsoft Teams manually, you can simply disable it from running at startup. This will surely resolve the error, but you will need to open it manually once the system boots up.

  1. Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager from the options.
  2. Once it is opened, go to Startup Apps from the left.
  3. Right-click Microsoft Teams and select Disable.
  4. Once done, restart your computer and you should not encounter this error.

By following the above methods, the error should be fixed. However, if it still persists, consider disabling third-party antivirus software and performing a clean boot to prevent third-party applications and antivirus software from interfering with the Microsoft Teams startup process.
