macOS ‘Tahoe’ to Launch at WWDC 2025, Siri’s AI Upgrade Expected to be Pushed Back

Apple is expected to announce at WWDC that it will rename all of its major operating systems, shifting to a release year–based numbering system moving forward. For macOS in particular, the company selects a specific name, and this year, it is reported that the new Mac update will be called “macOS Tahoe.

Bloomberg reporter, Mark Gurman has stated that the next update will be named after Lake Tahoe in California. This year, rumors had it that Apple will be eyeing a heavy visual redesign, with visionOS-inspired glass-like design, not just for macOS, but also for the likes of iOS. This means that some features, like Siri’s much-awaited AI update may have to wait.

I’m told that the company has homed in on Lake Tahoe as its next moniker, making it macOS Tahoe. It’s a famous resort area and a vacation destination (and second-home site) for many Apple employees.

Apple banked last year’s update on the push into AI, but the company has struggled to catch up. Apple Intelligence has lacked more-than-basic AI functionality, and it is said that the bigger LLM-based Siri update is likely to be pushed to 2026.
