How to Fix Instagram Reels Add Note Option Not Showing?
If Add note no longer appears on Instagram Reels, the most likely reason is not a broken phone. Instagram removed Notes from feed posts and Reels, while regular Notes still live in the Inbox and on the Profile surface.

That means older tutorials and screenshots can be misleading. A friend may have recorded the old Reel share sheet, but an updated Instagram app will usually show only the current share actions.
1. Confirm That Reel Notes Are No Longer a Current Feature
Instagram’s current Notes help describes Notes from the Inbox or Profile. Instagram also publicly said it was turning off the ability to add Notes to posts and Reels because that extra surface was not being used enough.
- Open any Instagram Reel.
- Tap the Share button.

If the share sheet has normal share actions but no Add note option, that matches Instagram’s current post-and-Reel Notes removal. - Open your Inbox or profile and check whether regular Notes still appear there.

Instagram’s current Notes surface is the inbox or profile, not the Reel share sheet. - If regular Notes work there, stop trying to restore Add note on Reels locally.
If only the Reel option is gone, there is no reliable local fix because the feature itself was removed. If regular Notes are also missing, check the current Notes surfaces after updating.
2. Update Instagram and Test Regular Notes
Updating is still worth doing when Notes look inconsistent, but the test is not whether Add note returns to Reels. The useful test is whether Instagram’s current Notes surfaces work from the inbox or profile.
- Update Instagram from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Update Instagram before judging whether the remaining Notes surfaces are broken. - Close Instagram fully and reopen it.
- Go to your Inbox or profile.
- Try creating a normal Note from the current note area.

If the regular Note composer works, Instagram Notes are still active on the account even though Reel Notes are gone. - If Notes are missing from both the inbox and profile, handle that as a normal Notes availability problem, not a Reel-only issue.
If regular Notes work after updating, the app is healthy. If your goal was to react to a Reel, use one of the current sharing paths instead.
3. Use the Current Reel Sharing Options Instead
The old Reel Notes button was a specific social overlay. It is not the same as sharing a Reel, reposting it, sending it in DMs, or posting a regular Note. Those current options still cover most of what people used Reel Notes for.
- If you only wanted to post a short thought for friends, create a regular Note from your inbox or profile.
- If you want to share the Reel visually, tap Share and use Add to story when the creator’s permissions allow it.

Story sharing is one of the supported ways to surface a Reel now that Reel Notes are gone. - If you want specific people to see it, send the Reel through DM.
- If your account has Repost, use that current option instead of the old Reel Note flow.
If Story, DM, or Repost actions still work, Instagram is behaving normally. If the share sheet itself is broken or missing supported actions, refresh the app state.
4. Refresh the App Only if Current Notes or Sharing Surfaces Are Broken
During and after feature removals, accounts can look uneven for a while. One account may show an older interface briefly while another has already moved on. That does not mean there is a hidden switch for restoring Reel Notes, but a refresh can help when regular Notes or basic sharing actions are also broken.
- If possible, compare another Instagram account on the same phone.
- Check whether regular Inbox/Profile Notes and Reel sharing actions work there.
- Restart the phone and reopen Instagram.
- Test Instagram once on Wi-Fi and once on mobile data.

A network test is useful only when current Notes or share actions load incorrectly, not when the removed Reel Notes button is simply gone. - If regular Notes or basic sharing still behave incorrectly, uninstall Instagram, reinstall it from the official store, and sign back in.
- After reinstalling, test regular Notes and the Reel share sheet separately.
If reinstalling restores regular Notes or supported sharing actions, the problem was local app state. If only Add note on Reels remains missing, stop troubleshooting locally.
5. Report the Issue Only if Current Instagram Surfaces Are Still Broken
Reporting is useful when Instagram’s current features are malfunctioning, such as regular Notes missing from the inbox/profile, the share sheet failing to load, or one account behaving differently after updating and reinstalling. It will not restore Reel Notes as a removed product feature.
- Open Profile > Menu > Settings and privacy > Account Status.
- Review Features you can’t use if that section appears.

Report the issue only if regular Notes or supported sharing actions are broken after updating and retesting. - If Account Status shows a limitation, follow the review or appeal path shown there.
- If Account Status looks normal, go to Profile > Menu > Help > Report a Problem.
- Explain whether regular Notes still appear in your inbox or profile, and whether Reel sharing through Story, DM, or Repost still works.
- Attach screenshots of the Reel share sheet, the inbox/profile Notes area, your app version, and a comparison account if you have one.
Once regular Notes and the current Reel sharing actions work, there is nothing more to repair for the old Add note button. On current Instagram, that button is usually missing because Notes on posts and Reels were removed, not because the phone is broken.
