How to Fix Instagram Create Post Plus Button Missing?
Instagram no longer keeps the familiar bottom + button in every layout. On newer versions, the create shortcut may appear at the top of Feed, open with a right-swipe, or show as Create new from the Profile screen.
So a missing bottom plus is not automatically a broken account or app. If one of the newer Create entry points opens the composer, Instagram only changed the shortcut. If none of them work, then the issue is likely stale app state, a bad update, an account-specific interface problem, or a posting restriction.
1. Check the Current Instagram Create Entry Points
Do this before changing settings. If Instagram has only moved the shortcut, the composer will still open from another place and the account does not need a reset.
- Open the Instagram mobile app, return to Feed, and look for Create in the navigation.
On current Instagram layouts, the clean first test is Create at the top or a swipe right anywhere in Feed. - If no Create control is visible, swipe right anywhere in Feed.
- When the camera opens, select Post and check whether the media picker or composer loads.
- Open Profile and use Create new in the top-right area if that control appears.
Some layouts surface posting from the profile screen instead of the old bottom-bar plus button.
If posting opens from any of these places, the missing bottom plus is only a layout change. If every entry point fails, refresh the app and phone state next.
2. Update Instagram and Restart the Phone
A half-applied app update can leave Instagram showing new navigation while the creation screen fails to load properly. Updating the app, restarting the phone, and testing another connection clears the basic version of that mismatch.
- Update Instagram from the App Store or Google Play Store.
A stale Instagram build can leave the create surface half-moved or half-loaded after a UI change. - Install any available operating-system update for the phone.
- Close Instagram fully, restart the phone, and reopen the app.
- Test once on Wi-Fi and once on mobile data.
- Check the bottom navigation, right-swipe gesture, and Profile creation route again.
If the composer returns after the update or restart, the app was loading an outdated interface. If the same account still cannot create a post, clear the local Instagram session next.
3. Refresh Instagram’s Local State
Instagram can keep a broken layout in local session data even after the app is current. A sign-out, cache clear, or reinstall forces the app to rebuild that state, but drafts stored only on the device can be lost during a reinstall.
- Open any accessible draft and publish or discard it before clearing storage or reinstalling Instagram.
- Log out of Instagram, close the app, and sign back into the same account.
A clean sign-out and sign-in can reload the posting surface when Instagram’s local session data is stuck. - On Android, open Settings > Apps > Instagram > Storage and select Clear cache.
- If cache clearing does not help, or if you use iPhone, uninstall Instagram and reinstall it from the official store.
Reinstalling is the stronger reset when Instagram keeps losing the post entry points on the same phone. - Sign back in and test Feed, swipe-right, and Profile again before changing account settings.
If Create returns after the session refresh, the phone had stale app data. If it is still missing, compare accounts before assuming the whole app installation is broken.
4. Test Another Account on the Same Phone
A same-device account test is useful because it keeps the phone, app version, and network the same. If one account can create posts and another cannot, the remaining issue is much more likely tied to the affected account.
- If another Instagram account is available, switch to it on the same phone and check for Create or Create new.
If one account can still create posts on the same phone, the missing button is more likely account-side than device-side. - If possible, sign the affected account into another phone running the latest Instagram app.
- If every account fails only on the original phone, return to app or operating-system troubleshooting on that phone.
- If only the affected account fails on both phones, keep screenshots of the comparison.
If the affected account still fails on another phone while other accounts can post, save those screenshots for Account Status or a technical report.
5. Check Account Status and Report the Missing Composer
When the app is current and the same account fails across devices, check whether Instagram has limited any account features.
A clean Account Status screen does not fix the composer by itself, but it tells you whether to appeal a restriction or report a technical issue.
- Open Profile > Menu > Account Status.
If Account Status lists feature limits, the missing create button is more likely tied to the account than to the phone. - Open Features you can’t use if that section appears.
- If a posting-related limit is listed, use the available review or appeal action.
- If Account Status is clear, open Profile > Menu > Help > Report a Problem.
- Attach screenshots and include the app version, phone model, missing Feed and Profile routes, connection tests, and account-comparison results.
Once Instagram restores the composer, test one normal post from Feed or Profile before clearing more app data. If the bottom plus never returns but another Create entry works, keep using the new entry point instead of resetting the app again.
