Setup Canon MX860 wirelessly using the Printer’s Control Panel

Canon PIXMA MX860 is a sophisticated all-in-one scanner, copier, fax, and printer. It features fully integrated 35-sheet auto document feeder for two-sided document copying and scanning. Canon PIXMA MX860 also features wireless Wi-Fi connectivity. It means that you can share this sophisticated machine with others in your home or office. However, first, you need to connect your Canon PIXMA MX860 to your Wi-Fi network. Follow this procedure to connect it to your Wi-Fi network and install the necessary software.

Before you start connecting your printer, please make sure you meet the following requirements.

You have a Wi-Fi wireless network available.

You know the name of your Wi-Fi network.

You have the password of your Wi-Fi network.

USB cable to connect printer and computer (Temporarily for setup only)

Press the Menu button (upper-left corner of the navigation pad on the printer).

Use right and left arrows to select Settings and press the OK

Select Device settings and press OK

Select LAN settings and press OK

Select Change wireless / wired and press OK

Select Wireless LAN active and press OK

Press On button on the printer to turn it off.

Connect the USB cable to the printer and computer.

Go to Canon website and download Canon PIXMA MX860 driver for your operating system.

Double-click the downloaded application to run it.

If your operating system, firewall, or antivirus shows a warning dialog box, allow the installation of this program.

Setup application will show the installation screen. Choose Easy Install and then choose Install.

On Select the printer connection method screen, choose Use the printer on network.

A license Agreement screen will appear. Read the license agreement and choose Yes.

On Setup Method screen, choose Connect printer to the network for the first time.

When the Printer Connection screen appears, make sure that the USB cable is attached to the printer and computer, and turn ON the printer.

Setup Preparations screen will appear. Click Next.

Access Point screen will appear. Select the Wi-Fi network you want the printer to connect to. Enter the Network Key (Wi-Fi password) and click Connect.

On Set Printer IP Address screen, select Get IP address automatically and click Connect.

Note for Windows XP Users: If Network Setup of the Card Slot screen appears, specify a drive letter and click Next.

When the Setup Completion screen appears, remove the USB cable and click Next.

Turn off the machine, and then turn it ON again.

On the Connection Performance Measurement screen, click Next.

Confirm the connection performance and click Finish.

Click Exit on the Installation completion screen.

Your Canon PIXMA MX860 has been connected to the network and is ready to use.
