How to Fix Camera Not Found Error on Omegle?
The “Camera Not Found” error occurs when trying to start a video chat. This happens when Omegle can’t detect your camera because the browser or system settings are blocking access. It usually means Omegle or your browser doesn’t have permission to use your camera, or another app is using it. A common reason for this problem is using an outdated browser, especially Chrome, which has tighter privacy rules for camera use.
Other possible reasons include corrupted browser cookies or cache, old camera drivers, or the camera being in use by another app.
In this article, we will discuss several issues to solve this problem.
1. Close other programs that are using the camera
If your camera isn’t working on Omegle, it might be because another app like Skype, Messenger, Google Hangouts, WhatsApp Web, or Viber is using it. Closing these apps can resolve the issue, especially with built-in webcams.
- Press Windows + R, type “ms-settings:privacy-webcam“, and press Enter.
- In the Camera tab, scroll to Choose which apps can access your camera. Turn each toggle off to block all UWP (Universal Windows Platform) apps from using the camera.
- Open Omegle again to see if the issue is resolved. Note: If the issue is resolved, re-enable each app one by one to find the culprit.
2. Update Browser to the Latest version
Outdated browsers might not work well with sites like Omegle. Updating your browser helps it meet current security and privacy rules for using cameras and microphones. New browser updates usually fix bugs and improve performance, which can solve problems with the camera not being detected.
- Open Chrome and click the action button in the top right corner.
- Go to Help > About Google Chrome.
- Wait for the scan to complete, then click Update Google Chrome if a new version is available.
- Restart your browser and check if Omegle works properly.
3. Clear your browser’s cookies
When using Omegle, stored browser data and cookies can cause issues with camera access. These files hold old session info and can become outdated or corrupted. Clearing your browser’s cookies resets its memory of Omegle, removing any data that might be stopping your camera from working correctly.
- Open Chrome and close all other tabs.
- Click the action button (three-dot icon) in the top right.
- In Settings, scroll down and click Advanced.
- Under Privacy and Security, click Clear browsing data.
- In the Basic tab, check Cached images and files and Cookies and other site data.
- Set Time range to All time and click Clear data.
- Wait for it to finish, then restart Chrome.
4. Using a different browser (Chrome Only)
Switching to a different browser can be a quick and effective solution if you’re experiencing camera access issues with Omegle on Chrome. Frequent updates and policy changes in Chrome, such as restricting Flash plugin access to webcams and microphones, may cause these issues. By using an alternative browser like Firefox, Edge, or Internet Explorer, you can bypass Chrome-specific problems with permissions and unsupported settings, allowing Omegle to detect and use your camera without interference.
