If you have ever tried to install the latest build of Windows 10 on your mobile, then you probably have gotten the 0x80070002 error. It can also be that you are attempting to upgrade before the error came up. The error has been most reported on Nokia Lumia devices. For this, the company has taken the hit for making releases that are not stable.
For updates, you would have noticed that downloading the update and preparing to install the update all works fine, but when it restarts, the cogs appear for a split second and the phone gets restarted and prompt error message saying temporary error 0X80070002.

Method 1: Windows Recovery
Performing a Windows recovery will fix the 0x80070002 error.
If you are using any of the Nokia branded phones, use the Nokia Software Recovery Tool as described in Method 2. If you do not know which of the Windows Phone Operating System (OS) version that is currently installed on your phone, navigate to Settings –> about.
To download and install Windows Device Recovery Tool on your computer, visit the official download page on the Microsoft official website or just search on your favourite search engine. Before you start, make sure that your phone’s battery is fully charged. Once the installation is complete, start the application and the main screen will appear.
If your phone is not automatically detected, disconnect all phones from your computer and tap on My phone was not detected that can be found at the bottom of the main screen when prompted, and select the phone brand.
Ensure that you are making use of a compatible USB to connect your phone to your computer.
Follow the screen instructions as soon as the computer detects the connected phone. If the phone does not connect within the first minute you can restart your phone. When the phone has been detected, with the USB connected to the computer, press and hold the Power and Volume down keys simultaneously. You are to release the keys when phone vibrates. Tap on the Install software to start installation on your phone. Follow the instruction to complete the process. The issue should be resolved by the time that the process have been completed.
Method 2: Nokia Software Recovery Tool (for other Nokia phones)
The Nokia Software Recovery Tool can be used to reinstall the software in many of the Series 30+/Series 40/Asha/Nokia Belle and Nokia X platform phones.
Download and install Nokia Software Recovery Tool to your computer. It is advisable to ensure that your phone’s battery is fully charged.
Start Nokia Software Recovery Tool, and connect your phone to your computer with a compatible USB cable. If prompted, select the correct USB mode on your phone: Nokia Suite or Modem. Follow the instructions shown on the tool to complete the recovery process.
This should resolve the issue with the 0x80070002 error.
