Fix: PSN Error 8002a308

This particular error code has been bugging users since it first appeared and it prevented them from accessing PSN (PlayStation Network) which is a key feature if you want to engage in any online activities regarding your gaming experience. The error code is usually followed by this particular message:

An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8002A308).

The error itself can be solved in a number of different ways and users should definitely check out all of the solutions below in order to treat the error and get rid of it once and for all.

Solution 1: Restart Your PlayStation 3 and Your Router

While this method probably won’t work in 100% of cases, resetting their PS3 worked for some users and it’s definitely the easiest method to check out and implement as it only takes a couple of minutes and it does not require plenty of tech knowledge.

  1. Completely shut down the PlayStation 3 by pressing and holding the power button.
  2. Once the console is completely shut down, unplug the power cord from the back of the console.
  3. Let the console stay unplugged for at least a couple of minutes.
  4. Turn off your router and let it stay turned off for a couple of minutes before you turn it back on.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the PlayStation 3 and turn it on the way you normally do.

Solution 2: Change the Time Settings on Your PlayStation 3

Wrong time and date settings are quite a valid cause for not being able to sign in into PSN properly and you should definitely check whether these settings are set up properly on your console and, luckily, you can do so easily by following the instructions below:

  1. Turn on your PS3 and navigate to Settings >> Date and Time Settings.

  1. Set the method for adjusting the date and time to Set Manually.
  2. Change the time zone to the one suitable for your location and switch the Daylight Saving option to Daylight Saving and not Standard.
  3. If these settings have been configured like this on your PS3, you can skip this solution and try some of the remaining ones.

Solution 3: Alter Your DNS Settings

Changing your DNS address can really do miracles for your PS3 connection and that is probably the best advice anyone can give you when dealing with these types of error codes. It’s important to stay careful regarding the settings you alter since you may lose your Internet connectivity if you change the wrong settings.

Follow the instructions below in order to change the default DNS server on your PlayStation 3:

  1. Turn on your PS3 and navigate to Settings >> Network Settings.
  2. After that, go to the Internet Connection Settings submenu and select Custom.

  1. Select the type of connection you are using (If your PS3 is plugged into the router, select ‘Wired’ and if you’re using a wireless connection, select that instead.)
  2. If you selected wireless, set up your connection as normal until you get to the IP Address menu. If you selected wired, select the ‘Auto-Detect’ option at the next screen and continue to the IP Address menu.

  1. Make sure you set your settings as follows:
IP Address Setting: Automatic
DHCP Host name: Do Not Set
DNS Settings: Manual
Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
MTU: Automatic
Proxy Server: Do Not Use
UPnP: Enable
  1. Test your connection and check to see if the error code still appears.

Solution 4: Try Logging In From Another PS3

One of the possible causes for this error is getting your friend or using another PS3 to log into your account. This occurs because of confusion which is sometimes created by bugs and maintenance which fools the PSN that you are logged in with your PS3, preventing you from logging in again.

However, if you log in from another PS3, you will be logged out from your own PS3 which should help clear the confusion. Make sure you don’t share your account’s credentials with anyone you don’t trust completely as you risk losing your games and/or your funds.

Solution 5: Reset the Internet Connection Settings

Resetting your network settings is the perfect solution if you have altered them in any way other than to solve this error. Some users claim that this method worked even though they never changed anything so it’s really worth giving this a shot.

Wired Connection:

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the PS3 console and immediately go to Settings >> Network Settings >> Internet Connection Settings.

  1. Select Yes when a screen is displayed saying that you will be disconnected from the Internet.
  2. Select Easy and a list of settings should be displayed after a while.

  1. Depending on the network environment, additional settings for PPPoE, a proxy server or IP address may be needed. For details on these settings, refer to the information from your Internet service provider or the instructions which came with the network device.
  2. Save your settings and test your connection in order to see if you have connected successfully. Also, check to see if the error code 8002A308 keeps appearing.

Wireless Connection:

  1. Check that the settings for the hotspot have been completed.
  2. Check that there is an access point connected to a network with Internet service near the PlayStation 3. Settings for the access point are typically set using a PC.
  3. Make sure that an Ethernet cable is not connected to the PS3 console.
  4. Connect an Ethernet cable to the PS3 console and immediately go to Settings >> Network Settings >> Internet Connection Settings.

  1. Select Yes when a screen is displayed saying that you will be disconnected from the Internet.
  2. Select Easy >> Wireless >> Scan which should display a list of access points within the range of the PS3 console.

  1. Depending on the model of PS3 system in use, you may have the option Automatic. Select this option when using an access point that supports automatic setup. If you follow the on-screen instructions, the necessary settings will be completed automatically.
  2. Select the hotspot that you want to use.

  1. An “SSID” is an identification name assigned to an access point. Make sure you try to connect to your own access point or to a point to which you have access to at the list.
  2. Select the type of security which is used for the network and enter the security credentials.
  3. When you have finished entering the encryption key and have confirmed the network configuration, a list of settings will be displayed.
  4. Depending on the network environment, additional settings for PPPoE, a proxy server or IP address may be needed. For details on these settings, refer to the information from your Internet service provider or the instructions which came with the network device.
  5. Save your settings and test your connection in order to see if you have connected successfully. Also, check to see if the error code 8002A308 keeps appearing.

This simple solution has helped some people get rid of this annoying error code. As simple as it may sound, it helps and it only takes a minute of your time to try it out.
