Fix: Logitech Gaming Software not Detecting g27

If you are using the Logitech G27 driving wheel on Windows 10, or at least trying to use it, then you might experience the issue of Logitech G27 not getting recognized. This problem can happen to other Windows users as well but it is most common among the Windows 10 users.  Basically, your Logitech G27 racing wheel won’t be recognized by Windows. Instead, the system will most likely detect some other wheel. This will prevent you from selecting and using the Logitech G27 in your games. For some users, the wG27 wheel might be recognized by the Windows properly but it won’t be recognized by the games or one of the games. Most games will give an error like “No controller detected”.

The problem is caused by a bug/problem with the Windows 10 update. That is why you might notice that the problem started after installing a Windows 10 update. If you didn’t update the Windows or you aren’t using Windows 10 then the issue might be caused by corrupt drivers or corrupt files.

Method 1: Update G27 Drivers

The first thing you need to do is to update the drivers for G27. Even if you have already downloaded and tried to install the drivers, follow the steps given in this method. This method updates the drivers in a different way and it has worked for a lot of users.

Here are the steps for updating Logitech G27 drivers

Note: Due to the unavailability of the hardware, the screenshots will have a microphone instead of a G27. However, this shouldn’t be a problem because the steps are the same for both devices.

  1. Hold Windows key and press R
  2. Type control panel and press Enter

  1. Click View devices and printers

  1. Locate your G27 racing wheel
  2. Right-click G27 racing wheel and select Properties

  1. Select the Hardware tab
  2. Select your G27 racing wheel (it might have a different name) from device functions section and click Properties (from Device function summary section)

  1. A new window will open. Click Change settings It should in the General tab. Click Yes if the system asks for permission

  1. Click Driver tab
  2. Click Update Driver…

  1. Click Browse my computer for driver software

  1. Select the option Let me pick from a list of device drivers on computer

  1. Select USB Input Device from the Model section
  2. Click Next and wait for it to update the driver

You should be good to go once the process is finished. The G27 racing wheel should work as expected.

Note: If you experience the same issue after and other Windows 10 update then simply repeat this process and it should work.

Method 2: Reinstall Profiler and Drivers

Uninstalling the Profiler as well as the drivers and then reinstalling both of these has resolved the issue for multiple users as well. So, here are the steps for uninstalling and then reinstalling the profile and drivers.

Note: Unplug your controller before following the steps given below.

  1. Hold Windows key and press R
  2. Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter

  1. Double click Human Interface, Other Devices and Universal Serial Bus controller. Right click and select Uninstall for any Logitech drivers you see there. Repeat this for all Logitech G27 related drivers.

  1. Once done, close the device manager
  2. Hold Windows key and press R
  3. Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter

  1. Locate the Logitech Profiler and select it. Click Uninstall and follow any additional on-screen instructions.
  2. Reboot

Once the system is rebooted, install the Logitech Profiler again. Install the latest drivers for Logitech as well. Reboot again and check if the issue is resolved or not.

Method 3: Reinstall Drivers and Profiler (Alternative)

If method 2 didn’t work for you then try this.

  1. Plugin the wheel
  2. Hold Windows key and press R
  3. Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter

  1. Double click Human Interface, Other Devices and Universal Serial Bus controller. Right click and select Uninstall for any Logitech drivers you see there. Repeat this for all Logitech G27 related drivers. Note: Do not forget to check the option Delete the driver software for this device.

  1. Once done, close the device manager
  2. Unplug the wheel
  3. Hold Windows key and press R
  4. Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter

  1. Locate the Logitech Profiler and select it. Click Uninstall and follow any additional on-screen instructions.
  2. Click here and download the latest version of the drivers. Install the drivers
  3. Once done, the software installation should ask you to plug in the wheel. If you don’t see a message like that then that means the installation is using the older version of drivers. Repeat this process to make sure you have uninstalled the drivers and the Profiler.
  4. Insert the G27 wheel when the installation asks you to.
  5. Now, when the Profiler opens, click Device

  1. Select Default Device
  2. You should be able to see the G27 wheel in there. Simply select it and proceed.

Once done, the problem should be resolved.

Method 3: Remove Ghost Devices and Reinstall Logitech Gaming Software

Removing the ghost devices from the device manager and then reinstalling the Logitech Gaming Software has resolved the issue for a lot of users. Follow the steps given below to remove the ghost devices and reinstall the Logitech Gaming Software.

  1. Press Windows key once

  1. Once done, close the device manager
  2. Hold Windows key and press R
  3. Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter

  1. Locate the Logitech Gaming Software and select it. Click Uninstall
  2. Close all the windows
  3. Hold Windows key and press R
  4. Type MSConfig and press Enter

  1. Select the Services tab
  2. Check the option Hide all Microsoft services
  3. Click Disable all

  1. Click Apply then select Ok

  1. Reboot
  2. Reinstall the Logitech Gaming Software once the system reboots
  3. Now connect the G27 racing wheel and check if the profiler is detecting it or not. It should detect it and your racing wheel should be working fine now
  4. Hold Windows key and press R
  5. Type MSConfig and press Enter

  1. Select the Services tab
  2. Check the option Hide all Microsoft services
  3. Click Enable all

  1. Click Apply then select Ok
  2. Reboot

The wheel should work just fine one the reboot completes.

Method 4: Rollback Updates

If you are on Windows 10 and you are sure that the problem started after the Windows update then you have the choice of rolling back to previous builds. This will allow you to undo the Windows update and, therefore, resolve this issue. Here are the steps to roll back to a previous build.

  1. Hold Windows key and press I
  2. Select Update & Security

  1. Select Recovery from the left pane
  2. Click Get Started from the section name Get back to an earlier build. Follow any additional on-screen instructions.

Once done, your Windows update should be uninstalled. Check if it has resolved the issue for you. If it has resolved the issue for you and you don’t want Windows to update again then follow the steps given below

  1. Hold Windows key and press R
  2. Type services.msc and press Enter

  1. Locate Windows Update and double click it

  1. Select Disabled from the drop down menu in Startup section

  1. Click Stop from the Service Status section if the Service Status is running
  2. Click Apply then select Ok

This should prevent any future Windows updates to install automatically. Note: We do not recommend this because Windows updates are crucial for a system’s safety. You can enable the Windows updates by repeating the same steps given above and simply selecting the Automatic from the drop down menu in Start up type.

Method 5: Check Steam Settings

If you are experiencing issues with making G27 work with a specific game or with multiple games and you have steam installed on the system then the issue might be with steam. Some users were experiencing the issue that their wheel was recognized by the Windows but it wasn’t getting recognized by the games. Follow the steps given below if you have this issue

  1. Open Steam app
  2. Click Steam from the top left corner
  3. Select Settings

  1. Select Controller from the left pane
  2. Click the option General Control Settings

  1. Uncheck the option Generic Gamepad Configuration Support

Once done, you should be good to go.

If the issue still persists, open Steam again and follow the guide below.

  1. Click on “Library” and right-click on the game with which you are facing this issue.
  2. Select “Properties” and then click on the “General Tab”.
  3. Click on the “Steam input per game settings” dropdown.
Steam input per game settings to Forced OFF
  4. Select the “Forced OFF” option from the list.
  5. Check to see if the issue persists.

Method 6: Change USB Port

Try to change the USB port for the G27 wheel and check if that works for you. A lot of users solved the issue by changing the USB port. Although it’s not confirmed but if the G27 when the Logitech G27 is not getting recognized it might not be compatible with USB 3.0.

Method 7: Providing Admin Privileges

In certain situations, running the Logitech Game Software with administrative privileges can fix this issue and get rid of the problem permanently. Therefore, we will be doing just that in this step. For that:

  1. Right-click on the “Lcore.exe” in the Logitech Software installation folder.
  2. Select the “Run as Administrator” option.
    Run As Administrator
  3. Check to see if the issue persists.
  4. You can also set it to run permanently as an admin by going into its properties and checking the “Run as Administrator” box in the compatibility tab.

Thank you, the driver update worked! Much appreciated!

After spending a week on the problem, I was getting ready to throw the wheel and stand away. Method #3 (removing ghost devices) solved it completely. I had about a dozen non-working items in the two sections of Device Manager; deleting them saved my controller from a trip to the dump!

HOWEVER: I already had the Logitech Profiler installed, so I ignored the bit about stopping all non-Microsoft services. I’m a developer, and I would NEVER suggest that anyone do this.

But yeah. Drivers updated, ghost devices removed, and now I’m driving like a digital maniac. Thanks!

EDIT: I linked to this page in the Steam Forums for GRID Autosport.

lol why didn’t you link it in g25-27 general comments? would of saved me an expensive pc repair : psu mobo and and cpu all blew, nevermind, and still didn’t work after reinstall (not docs but settings) (same HD)….havn’t tried it yet but from what u typed i feel very comfortable, that it will work now even though i did commplete all steps., because of the post you typed, this was all after following some in hindsight very bad advice, like you said, don’t mess, i went to msconfig :advanced and checked pci(lock) checked that, tried reboot (compulsory) and on restart win 10 x64 just crashed and locked up, and i prob don’t need to tell you how risky a forced shutdown is reboot function also wouldn’t respond, the rest now is unfortunate history..i’m vexed with ms though for not having some kind of warning of using that function, neither nvidia (problem occured believe it or not after an nvidia video driver update) microsoft or logitech, had a clue, seriously they were all pretty much next to useless although nvidia tried to help i’ll give them that, the irony is i found this page early on just i got distracted by other info, and never tried option 3……hope you’re having fun anyway..I have the g25, so maybe that’s why i never found that link,, that’s my luck..and of course BIG thanks to Kevin, he’s the only one who actually knows his stuff, almsot feel i should be paying them…..a total star…..cheersEDIT : Ignore all this if anyone is reading, device still has the same problem, it won’t auto calibrate….and i have 2 g25”s both worked fine before the video driver update…now neither work

If the Video driver update caused this issue, i suggest you to use DDU to uninstall the driver and install an older version of it on the computer to make sure that it isn’t causing issues with the G27 wheel.

thx Shane….welll this is the latest….whilst trying to fix it…i somehow managed to blow my pc (don’t ask) and now with the new pc same issues…however the same error isn’t coming up on devices ….i’ll find this out if you want to know i forget right now…however my new pc is all USB3 which is different to be for so it couuld have same prob but for diferent reasoning,, i informed logi and they said they were looking into it prob a week ago now, so i’m wondering what’s taking so long to confirm whether all USB 3 mobo would have compatibility problems??EDIt..going to give them will next week and then making an enquiry why they havn’t confirmed this one way or the other..cheers

i don’t know really if this is the same thing but iv’e tried everything i can think of and i can’t get my logi g25 to self calibrate and therefore work with win 10…but i had it working momentarily, then i needed an nvidia gfx driver update and since then nothing,, things iv’e tried include reinstalling the OS…not a clean reinstall but the option which keeps programs but removes settings and configs to default……..my email is espyorkshireman@yahoo.com if anyone can help…thx…..i should add iv’e installed the logitech profiler which finds my hardware and most control functions respond on the test screen, except critically the steering operation itself

You are saying that the GFX Driver update broke this function, you can use DDU to completely uninstall the driver and install the older version of it from the Nvidia website and check if that gets you the functionality back.

That could be a potential issue, aren’t there any USB 2.0 ports on the front of your casing?
