How to Expand Taskbar to Multiple Rows in Windows 11?

On Windows 10, it was fairly simple to resize your taskbar. You only needed to click and hold an edge of the bar and move the cursor upwards. In Windows 11, this option isn’t available yet. While Microsoft visually redesigned the new taskbar, it did not carry over every feature from its previous iteration.

Multiple Row Taskbar in Windows 10

1) Use the Registry Editor

As a user, you can make certain changes in the Windows registry to enable the taskbar to expand to multiple rows in Windows 11. This requires you to make specific changes within the Registry Editor.

Note: This method may not work for some users running Windows 11 24H2 or higher. For later versions of Windows, you may have to resort to third-party solutions.

Warning: Proceed with caution when making changes to the Windows Registry. The Registry is a critical component of the operating system, and incorrect modifications can lead to system instability or malfunctions. Before making any changes, it is highly recommended to back up your current Registry settings. This ensures you can restore your system if something goes wrong.

  1. Open the Registry Editor. You can do this by opening Run via “Ctrl + R” and typing “regedit” or by searching for the editor via Windows Search.
  2. Navigate to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > StuckRects3
  3. Click on Settings. This will open a binary value editor dialog.
  4. Locate the row corresponding to the value data 00000028, column FE. Change the value from 01 to 02. This indicates the row number for your taskbar.
  5. Click on OK and restart Windows Explorer from the Task Manager to apply the changes.

2) Explorer Patcher

Explorer Patcher is an open-source solution for expanding your taskbar to more than one row. It replaces the existing taskbar with that of Windows 10, which then allows you to easily resize it.

  1. Visit Explorer Patcher’s GitHub repository.
  2. On the right-hand side, under Releases, click on the Latest release.
  3. Click on the ep_setup.exe file to download the tool.
  4. After downloading, launch the program. Your taskbar will go black for a moment.
  5. Once the Windows 10 taskbar appears, right-click on it and uncheck “Lock the taskbar.”
  6. Click on the upper edge of the bar and drag the cursor upwards to resize the bar.
