Here’s a quick Step by step guide on how to do this:
- Ensure that Word or Outlook (the program that you’re encountering issues with) is closed and not running in the background.
- Next, use the action bar at the bottom of the screen to open up the LaunchPad application. Next, use the search function at the top of the screen to search for ‘keychain’. Next, from the list of results, click on Keychain Access.
- Once you’re inside the Keychain Access menu, select the login tab from the left-hand section of the screen.
- Next, move over to the right-hand section of the Keychain Access utility and scroll down through the list of items until you locate the entries that start with ‘com.microsoft‘. Then, expand on each item until you locate the login keychain associated with the program that’s triggering the EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION.
- After you spot it, right-click on it and choose Delete from the context menu in order to remove the keychain entry of Word or Outlook.
- Once you manage to delete the appropriate keychain access entry, reboot your machine and repeat the action that was triggering the EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION after the next startup.

- Once inside use the search function at the top to search for ‘Terminal’, then click on Terminal from the list of results.
- Once you’re inside the Terminal application, run the following commands in order and press Enter after each one to clear any relevant login keychains belonging to Office:

- After you’re finished running every command, restart your Mac and see if the issue is fixed at the next system startup.

Method 5: Setting ‘login’ as the default Keychain (if applicable)
As it turns out, it’s also possible that you’re seeing the EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION error due to the fact that you also have a second Keychain that is stored somewhere else than ~/Library/Keychains/ and it is set as the default.
If this scenario is applicable, you should be able to get the issue resolved by opening Keychain Access and making the login Keychain as the default choice. But keep in mind that by doing this, you will likely need to either migrate or a lot of stored login info manually – Especially if you’ve been using a custom Keychain for a long time.
