Fix: Error Code 8-0x0000007d in Rainbow Six Siege

The Rainbow Six Siege error code “8-0x0000007d” is a connection/session error that appears when Siege can’t keep a stable session with Ubisoft services.

Most of the time, it’s caused by Ubisoft outages/maintenance or network instability (packet loss, unstable Wi-Fi, VPN/proxy routing, strict/double NAT, ISP route/IP changes). It can also happen after an interrupted update that leaves the game/launcher cache in a partial state.

When You Usually See This Error

  • While logging in (“Connecting to Ubisoft services”).
  • When matchmaking starts, joining a party/squad, or loading into a match.
  • Right after a patch/hotfix (stuck downloads, corrupted cache, partial install).
  • After a network change in the background (VPN toggled, Wi-Fi band switch, ISP routing/NAT behavior).

Before You Try Fixes: Quick Checks

1. Power-Cycle Your Router/Modem and Test a Different Network

A quick reboot clears temporary router/ISP issues and can refresh your route/IP, which helps if Siege is dropping sessions.

  1. Turn off your router (and modem if separate), then unplug power.
  2. Wait 30–60 seconds.
  3. Turn everything back on and wait until the internet fully reconnects.
  4. If possible, test on Ethernet (wired).
  5. To isolate ISP/router problems, try launching once on a mobile hotspot. If hotspot works but home internet doesn’t, suspect router/NAT/ISP routing/DNS.

2. Disable VPN/Proxy (and Any Network “Boosters”)

VPNs/proxies/routing apps can break login/matchmaking by changing your route, increasing latency, or switching your IP mid-session.

  • Disable your VPN/Proxy and exit any “gaming booster”/routing apps.
  • Close and reopen Ubisoft Connect to refresh your session.
  • Launch Siege and test matchmaking again.

3. Install Pending Windows Updates

If the error repeats across launches, install pending Windows updates (network/security fixes can help with stubborn session issues).

  1. Restart your PC.
  2. Press Windows + I > Windows Update.
  3. Click Check for updates and install everything available.
  4. Restart again after updates finish.

4. Verify Game Files and Install Updates (Game + Ubisoft Connect)

Verifying game files replaces missing/corrupted data and is one of the best fixes after patches, crashes during updating, or a bad cache state.

  1. Open Ubisoft Connect > go to Library > select Rainbow Six Siege.
  2. Click the three dots next to the game > choose Verify files.
  3. Wait for verification to finish.
  4. Install any available game updates afterward.
  5. Update Ubisoft Connect if prompted, then restart the launcher and try again.

5. Unlink and Relink Your Ubisoft Account (Only If Ownership/Linking Looks Wrong)

Do this only if you suspect an account linking mismatch (wrong Ubisoft account signed in, recently changed linked accounts, or Siege ownership is tied to Steam/Epic but authentication is happening on a different Ubisoft account).

Important: unlinking can have restrictions (often you can only re-link the same platform account, and some platforms enforce cooldowns). If Ubisoft shows warnings, stop and follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. Open Ubisoft Account Management.
  2. Sign in to the Ubisoft account linked to Siege.
  3. Go to Account Information > Linked accounts.
  4. Find your platform (Steam/Epic/Xbox/PlayStation) and select Unlink.
  5. Restart your PC/console.
  6. Return to Linked accounts and Link it again.
  7. Launch Siege and test.

If It Still Happens

If the error continues after all steps, treat it as an ongoing session stability issue (regional routing, ISP/NAT path, or a recurring Ubisoft service problem). Re-check official status pages during peak hours, and retry later if there’s active maintenance/outages.

  • Re-check server status and try again later if there’s an outage window.
  • When contacting Ubisoft Support, include:
    • The exact code: 8-0x0000007d
    • Your platform (Ubisoft Connect / Steam / Epic / Xbox / PlayStation)
    • Your region and the approximate time it occurred
    • A screenshot of the error
    • Your Ubisoft Connect logs (PC) if requested
