Kadokawa Provides Update on Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, Release Date Still to Be Announced
Elden Ring easily secures its place as one of the top games released in the past half-decade. This is precisely why the developer, FromSoftware, made the decision to return to the story’s (rumored) origins in the Lands Between with the “Shadow of the Erdtree” DLC.
Although the DLC had been announced shortly after Elden Ring’s first anniversary in February, both FromSoftware and the publisher, Bandai Namco, have refrained from giving any official updates regarding the game’s progress.
Today, however, in the consolidated earnings report for the current fiscal year, FromSoftware’s parent company, Kadokawa, has provided us with an update on the development status of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. They have stated that the development is “proceeding smoothly.“
While this statement doesn’t provide much information about the progress of the DLC’s development and its release date, the report does mention that the release date has not been announced yet. Some fans have speculated a late 2023 announcement, possibly at The Game Awards this year.
Earlier this year, there was a leak suggesting that the DLC might be released on Elden Ring’s 2nd anniversary, and if that turns out to be true, it’s not too far away. As the release of Shadow of the Erdtree closes in, fans will have plenty to explore, and it will be intriguing to see how FromSoftware takes the game in a new direction.
This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
