How to Delete Reddit Account Permanently?

Many users that are leaving Reddit or starting new will want to delete their old accounts. Just like any other social platform, Reddit also provides an option for deleting accounts. However, removing an account on Reddit works a bit differently than any other platform. There are also some data that won’t be removed by removing the account only. In this article, you will learn all about how to delete a Reddit account and what things you will be removed.

Things to Confirm Before Removing Account?

There are some things that you need to consider before removing your account. Before taking any further steps, you should check the consequences of removing the Reddit account. The following things will happen, once you remove your Reddit account:

• Your Profile will be permanently removed from Reddit: All the profile information like karma, avatar, cake day, and history of the posts/comments will be removed. People who will search you through URL will get the account has been deleted message.
• Your Username will be permanently removed from Reddit: Once you remove the account, your username will be forever gone. Nobody will be able to create an account with that username ever.
• Your Messages and Chats will become unattributed: All of your messages and chat will stay on Reddit, even if you remove your account. However, people will be unable to see your username or avatar.
• Your Posts and Comments will become unattributed: Similarly, the posts and comments will stay on Reddit too. People will be able to see your posts and comments, but not your username and avatar.

For the things that won’t be removed by removing the account, you need to delete them manually before removing the account. All the messages, chat, posts, and comments must be removed manually. If not, they will stay on Reddit and other users will be able to see it.

Deleting Account on Reddit

In Reddit, you won’t find an option for deleting or removing an account. You can only find a deactivate option in the user settings. However, deactivating an account on Reddit is similar to removing an account. Once you deactivate an account on Reddit, then you won’t be able to activate it back. Follow the below steps to remove your Reddit account:

1. Open your browser and go to the Reddit site. Now login to your account if you are not already logged in.
2. Click on the username on the top right corner and choose the User Settings option.

   

3. Now in the Account Settings tab, scroll down to the bottom and click on the Deactivate Account button in red color.

   

4. After that, a new dialog box will pop up. Type your username, password, and tick the “I understand…” option. Finally, click on the Deactivate button.

   

5. It will ask once again for confirmation, click the Deactivate Account button again to remove the account.

You can also remove the Reddit account on your phone. However, the Deactivate Account option is not available for the Reddit app for phones. You still need to use a browser on phones to log in to your account and use the above steps to deactivate the account.
