How to Fix CS2 Not Reconnecting to Match?
When your connection drops or Counter-Strike 2 crashes during a competitive match, you may return to the main menu and see a Reconnect prompt. But when you press it, the game can get stuck on Connecting and never loads back in.

This usually means the client cannot complete the reconnect handshake with the live match session. Most cases happen after a crash or restart, when CS2 or Steam still has stale session state, or when something disrupts the route back to the server like packet loss, NAT/firewall filtering, VPN/overlays, or a temporary Steam/CS2 service issue.
Below are several ways to fix the stuck Reconnect prompt and successfully rejoin the match.
1. Start a Competitive Queue Briefly, then Try Reconnect
Sometimes the UI/session state does not refresh after a crash. Starting a queue can force CS2 to re-sync matchmaking state, making Reconnect respond again.
- In CS2 main menu, open Competitive.
- Select any map and click Play.

- As soon as queue starts, click the Reconnect prompt.
- If the prompt disappears while queued, cancel queue, return to menu, then try Reconnect again.
- If it still hangs, go to the next fix.
2. End CS2 and Steam Processes, then Restart
After a crash, background processes can keep old connection/session data alive. Ending them forces a clean startup and a fresh reconnect attempt.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Find cs2.exe, steam.exe, and (if present) steamwebhelper.exe.
- Right-click each and choose End task.

- Launch Steam again, open CS2, then press Reconnect.
3. Close CS2, Wait 2 to 5 Minutes, then Reconnect
If you crashed mid-round, the server may still treat your old connection as active for a short time. Reconnect can hang until that stale server-side session expires.
- Close CS2 completely.
- Wait 2 to 5 minutes (do not spam Reconnect).
- Reopen CS2 and click Reconnect.
4. Flush DNS
If this started after a network change or ISP hiccup, DNS cache can sometimes point you through a bad route. Flushing DNS forces Windows to rebuild cached lookups. It is quick and safe.
- Search Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.

- Run:
ipconfig /flushdns

- Open CS2 and try Reconnect.
5. Clear Steam Download Cache (Resets Steam State)
This is mainly a Steam reset. It can clear stuck Steam-side cache/state after crashes or service hiccups and forces Steam to restart cleanly.
Note: Steam may restart and you may need to sign in again.
- Open Steam and go to Settings.

- Open the Downloads tab.

- Click Clear Download Cache.

- Confirm and let Steam restart.
- Launch CS2 and try Reconnect.
