How to clear items from “Continue Watching” on Netflix?

You can easily remove movies/series from Netflix Continue Watching row on your smartphones, laptops, smart TVs, and iPads. There is one exception, though. The feature of removing an item directly from the Continue Watching row is only available for the latest Netflix versions. You’ll have to remove that item from the Viewing Activity if you use an older version.

Click on the profile icon and select Account

In this article, we will only walk you through the procedures for desktops and smartphones because you can apply the same steps to remove a movie from Continue Watching on your smart TV or iPad. So, let’s delve deep into ‘how’ we can get it done in either case.

For Desktop Netflix App and Browser

Before proceeding, ensure you’re logged in to the profile you desire to remove items from Continue Watching row.

  1. Once you’re on the Continue Watching row, move your cursor to the item you want to remove.
  2. Now click the X sign that says Remove from Row.
hover over the movie you want to remove from Continue Watching
hover over the movie you want to remove from Continue Watching
  3. On the next screen, select a reason for removing that item.
select one the three options why you are removing an item from continue watching
Select a reason for removing the movie from Continue Watching

That’s it. You’re all done!

For Android/iPhone Netflix App

Removing items from Continue Watching is pretty much the same on smartphones as on desktops. However, we have mentioned the step-by-step process for your convenience as well.

  1. Select your profile and go to the Continue Watching row.
Go to the Continue Watching row and tap three dots at the bottom
Go to the Continue Watching row and tap three dots at the bottom
  2. Tap the three dots under the movie/series title you want to remove from the row.
  3. Select Remove from Row in the menu.
    Tap Remove from Row
    Tap Remove from Row

Confirm your action by tapping OK/Remove.

Tap on OK to confirm
Tap OK to confirm

For Android/iPhone Browser

The above-mentioned methods are applicable when you use Netflix App on your Android/iPhone. When you are streaming Netflix on the browser, you do not see three dots at the bottom of movies in the Continue Watching row. In this scenario, you can proceed with the steps below.

  1. Log in to your Netflix Account on the browser and tap the hamburger menu/profile icon at the top left/right corner.
Press the menu icon to view list
    Go to the Menu
  2. Tap on Account and select your profile.
    Select the Account option
    Select the Account option
  3. Scroll down to locate Viewing Activity and tap view at the right corner.
Tap view to see viewing history
Tap view to see viewing history
  4. Hide any item by tapping the circle backslash symbol.
Remove an item by tapping cancel sign
Remove an item by tapping the cancel sign

By hiding a movie/series from the view history, you also remove it from your Continue Watching section within 24 hours. However, once you have deleted an item, there is no way to get it back on your viewing activity or Continue Watching row. So be careful not to delete series or movies you might want to watch again.

The deleted item will be removed within 24 hours

The X button is no long available in the Viewing list to delete it from the continue watching list. Instead i now see something that looks like a No Entry sign! Lets see if that does the same thing.

Regarding, “At this point, click the X button to remove a certain show from all your devices.” Using Firefox’s 66.0.2 (32-bit) do not see the “X button”. Can only “Hide from viewing history”.

I have done this. Several times. They still don’t disappear. I even wait a few days. They are still there.

What if I do want it to be used to make recommendations but I just don’t want it to be shown in my continue watching list? I sometimes like to rewatch random episode of shows but don’t want to watch the whole thing. I know if I have watched the whole thing on netflix before I can just go to the end of the last episode to remove it but sometimes I have watched it before in another platform but want to rewatch only those specific episodes?

This doesn’t work any more (Sept 1 2019)
Netflix will let you remove only the ratings (different page) but they have removed the X and anything else. I have never seen a “remove series” button and it’s still not there.
I don’t want it showing up at all, but Netflix keeps pushing it.
If I want to look at something to see if I want to add it to My List, Netflix will push it at me forever
Amazon has (IMO) a lousy interface but at least it allows me to delete from its list.
There must be some profit incentive to keep it on My List and not let us
remove it. It has persisted despite complaints since the getgo

This is the only solution that you can try, I’m afraid Netflix doesn’t provide any further options to get rid of this functionality.

It’s so stupid!! For example I watched some of the interviews of David Letterman’s, but am not in ANY way interested in Ellen or Melinda Gates.. I have to look at it like a to do list every single time on Netflix. They should allow people to delete these!

I Agree with you, it seems frustrating to look at for some people and might mess with the actual functionality of the feature by hiding the movies the person wants to watch.

Deleting series in viewing doesn’t work anymore but so far if you go to the end of the last episode of the last season & let it finish playing to the end it falls off. Like you viewed them all.

Recently joined Netflix. Wow what a rubbish site. Hard to locative programmes and impossible to remove from lists? It is very cheap but perhaps this is the reason?

This NEVER works for me or any of my Netflix devices. What actually does work is going to the very last 2 minutes or so of the last episode of the last season or movie and letting it finish. THAT is the ONLY thing that has ever worked here.

It worked for me…thank you, finally. There is not anymore a X next to the movie’s name but I clicked on the icon on the right of “report problem” and it says that the name on the list will be removed in 24 hours.
