Apple’s M5 chip is coming to the MacBook and iPad Pros this fall

Apple Silicon’s next crown jewel, the M5, will be making its way to Apple devices this Fall. The MacBook Pros and the iPad Pro are expected to be the first to get the upgrade, as numerous supply chain leaks have pointed to the mass production on TSMC’s 3nm N3P node for the chip.

M5 to stick to 3nm for this year, 2nm likely held back due to cost considerations

While the ‘Air(s)’ on both the Macbook and the iPad got their due chip upgrade early this year, the Pros will be the center focus for Apple in the second half of this year. After the iPhone’s September event, Apple is expected to hold another dedicated launch for its M5 lineup.

In Feburary of this year, rumors had it that Apple had started mass production on the M5 line. Since this year too, Apple is going 3nm, it is reasonable to put together that the 2nm route was likely not taken due to potential cost considerations.

If Apple keeps to its usual upgrade cycle for its custom silicon, we might be eyeing a late October release for the M5 MacBook Pro and the M5 iPad Pro, followed by an M5 MacBook Air and an Apple Vision Pro M5 upgrade in 2026.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
