NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Launching On 4th January 2023, Priced At $999
Hardware leaker, Harukaze shared a report from HSW giving us a price-tag for NVIDIA’s upcoming RTX 4070 Ti. As you would have guessed by the title, the RTX 4070 Ti will cost Chinese consumers $999. For some context, this is $100 more expensive than the ‘unlaunched’ RTX 4080.
The RTX 4070 Ti
Quite unexpectedly, the RTX 4070 Ti which is a rebranded RTX 4080 12GB is expected to cost more than the original variant. This rumor is really conflicting because it deviates from the reason why NVIDIA canceled the 4080 12GB in the first place.
The news source states, and I quote;
Last week, NVIDIA announced that it will release a brand new graphics card on January 4th. People familiar with the matter revealed that this may be the RTX 4070 Ti graphics card, which is the previously released RTX 4080 12G graphics card. The domestic starting price is 7199 yuan, or cheaper .

As per previous rumors, NVIDIA will launch the RTX 4070 Ti on the 5th of January, more on that here. Various sources have confirmed that the 4070 Ti will launch and retail in the 1st week of January. As for the pricing, the leaker gives us a price point of 7199 Yuan or roughly $999. Although, Harukaze does mention that this price will be for the Chinese market with a possible $100 tax.
Original 4080 12GB was $899. That $999 might include tax. So, maybe no price change at all and only name changed?

Despite these claims, pricing the RTX 4070 Ti almost similar to the RTX 4080 makes absolutely no sense since it’s merely a name change. However, take this claim with a huge grain of salt since NVIDIA is famous for making last-minute changes.
We did a small analysis a while back and sadly if this pricing does hold true, it makes sense (at least for NVIDIA’s pricing strategy). The RTX 4080 16GB costing $1199 leaves little to no room for NVIDIA in the mid-high end market. If team green decided to price the 4070 Ti at $749, then they would have no SKU to fill the gap between the $749-$1199 price points.
7900XTX vs 4070 Ti
The RTX 4080 12GB (4070 Ti) was massively slower than the RTX 3090 Ti, with some claiming that it is on par with an RTX 3080 12GB. The 7900XTX is roughly 50-65% faster than the 6950XT (3090 Ti), which of course crushes the 4070 Ti. Even the slower and cheaper 7900XT is much better being just 15-20% slower than the 7900XTX. It is clear that NVIDIA is facing a real threat from RDNA3, so this rumor could up just being a rumor.
