Xiaomi’s Photography Kit Gets an Upgrade for the 200MP
One more thing to charge—because why not? (¬‿¬)
If you were impressed by the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s camera last year, you should be happy to hear that the 15 Ultra is sticking with what works. While most of the camera module retained the same hardware, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra comes with a new 200-megapixel periscope lens.
The Ultras have been heavily focused on photography in the last few years, with their cameras being a major selling point. However, to truly get the best out of the hardware, you’ll need to shell out some extra cash for the “Photography Kit.”
15 Ultra’s Photography Kit Comes With a Replaceable Shutter Button, a 2,000mAh Battery, and an IP54 Rating
The €199 add-on comes with a new thumb handle, IP54-rated water and dust resistance, and a replaceable shutter button. The kit also acts as a power bank and is upgraded this year to charge your phone at 90W at a capacity of 2,000mAh, which, when combined with the phone’s battery, brings the total capacity to a whopping 8,000mAh.
When the kit is attached, the phone acts as a makeshift camera. Pressing the shutter button (which is replaceable) opens up the Camera app. To take photos, gently hold down the shutter button to focus, then press it to capture an image. However, you can customize it to take a burst shot when holding down the shutter.
The kit has a zoom lever, too, underneath the shutter button that cycles between the ultrawide and zoom lenses, all the way to the max-supported optical settings. This lever, too, can be tweaked to switch only between different focal lengths, rather than zooming in or out.
The third button on the grip is a dedicated video recording button that starts a recording when pressed, from anywhere in the app. The last bit on the grip is a custom dial, which can be used to adjust the ISO, EV, WB, or focus.
The third-gen Photography Kit comes in two versions, including a Legendary Collector’s Edition, which is limited to the Chinese market. This is all we know for now, but we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
